BibleCourier is an electronic pocket Bible designed especially for someone who is blind or visually impaired. BibleCourier weighs about 4 ounces including batteries and is about the size of a pocket New Testament (4 by 2 by .75 inches). BibleCourier is very portable and small enough to easily fit in a shirt pocket or a purse. The Bible is powered by two double A size batteries which will run BibleCourier for several months of normal use or more than 30 hours of continuous reading. The BibleCourier memory holds your choice of two complete Bible translation (both the Old and New Testaments). All Bible texts will come with a users guide in a digital format. The BibleCourier’s two Bible versions are easily identified or switched between using the “star key” and “zero key” in combination. Each Bible maintains its own last location and bookmark environment. This allows the user to easily study two different Bible translations in parallel. Of course the books being independent means the focus can also be set at different places in the two Bibles.

𝐈𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐱𝐝𝐚𝐡𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬 🕊️

Lutheran Braille Evangelism mourns the passing of our dear friend and longtime board member, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐱𝐝𝐚𝐡𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬, who entered her eternal rest on January 21, 2025.

January is especially meaningful to our ministry. It includes World Braille Day (January 4)—a time when we celebrate the life-changing impact of braille and reaffirm our commitment to making God’s Word accessible to people who are blind and visually impaired. It is fitting that we remember Marlys during this month, as her life and service reflected the very purpose of this day.

Marlys began serving on the LBEA Board of Directors in December 2001 and remained a faithful, dedicated leader for more than two decades. At the time of her passing, she was actively serving on the board. Her commitment to this ministry never wavered.

After losing her sight suddenly in 1963 during her senior year at Mankato State, Marlys faced life with remarkable courage and determination. Over the years, she partnered with seven seeing eye dogs, overcame countless challenges, and became a fierce advocate for people who are blind.

Marlys was also a God-gifted communicator and “marketer” for the LBEA mission, sharing our work with passion, clarity, and joy. She believed deeply in the power of God’s Word made accessible through braille and audio formats.

In keeping with that faith and vision, Marlys arranged for a gift from her estate to support Lutheran Braille Evangelism—her final testimony of love for this ministry and for the people we serve.

We are profoundly grateful for Marlys’ service, friendship, and enduring legacy. Though she leaves a significant void, her impact will continue to be felt through lives touched by God’s Word.

📖 “𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞, 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭.” — Matthew 25:23

Please join us in thanking God for Marlys’ life and praying for her family and all who loved her.

As Christmas hymns fill the air—“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Away in a Manger,”—we are reminded of the miracle of Luke 2 and the hope Jesus brings.

But for many who are blind or visually impaired, opening a Bible or hymnal isn't simple. Some have no access at all to God’s Word.

At 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗟𝗕𝗘𝗔), we are changing that through Braille, large print, audio, and the remarkable 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲.

Arlene P. just registered for our Talking Books and large print materials to help her continue to follow Mass in the Catholic Diocese of Dallas! She will soon be receiving the New American Bible in large print (size 22 font, sans-serif). We are also delighted to provide her with the Mass Propers in large print every month - these are essentially the Missalettes for Mass and include the readings, prayers, and responses to the Mass on Sundays and special Feast days. Just like our braille subscription, the Mass Propers in large print are mailed out monthly. As has been the case for 125 years, all of our materials are provided free-of-charge!

If you are living with low vision or know anyone interested in our free large print Bible and/or Mass Propers, call us at 212-473-7800 or toll-free at 800-637-9193. You can also email [email protected]

We're so very fortunate to have 2 very special guest co-hosts joining us this coming Sunday. Nigel Ricards and Yvonne Pilot will join us on the air. We just might compare cooking tips and hints for kitchen safety. And, by the way, Yvonne is the Executive Director at the Lutheran Braille Association. We will also meet Dr. Kate Kuzminski, Director of Veterinary Medicine at Guide Dogs for the Blind as well as Scott Blanks, VP of Accessibility at the Braille Institute of America. Scott will share his experiences as a WAYMO passenger. We love a busy show! Keeps us all on our toes!
Another fun and informative show lined up just for you!
Tune in. We will be expecting your calls! You don't have to be visually impaired or blind to enjoy the show.
And, don't forget to tell your smart speaker to play WFTL850AM or stream us right from https://live.850wftl.com/listen/ We look forward to your company, this Sunday, June 29, 2025!
We welcome your calls! 407-894-1680

New in braille! Check out "Stop Your Whining: Legally Blind with 20/20 Vision" by John Helton. This title was requested to be transcribed by Adrijana P. in North Macedonia!

From having vision to becoming legally blind and from being married to becoming a widower, this is the story of John Helton, The Blind Fury and how he overcame these difficult situations. This book will encourage you, challenge you, make you laugh, and might even make you cry. Regardless, it is a challenge for all to “Stop Your Whining” and look at life with a different perspective. Begin your journey to a new, more positive mindset.
