Intercourse United Methodist Church

Intercourse United Methodist Church In*******se UMC invites everyone to join us for weekly Sunday worship and Bible Study.

In*******se United Methodist Church, located in the heart of Lancaster County Pennsylvania is a community of faith serving the spiritual needs of parishioners, neighbors, as well as visitors from around the corner and around the world. We are a small United Methodist community of faith with roots in the United Brethren tradition. We welcome all visitors, and have many visitors/sojourners who are v

acationers and sightseers enjoying the beautiful Lancaster countryside. We are comprised of professed members, regular local visitors, and our extended family of visitors from as far away as Connecticut and North Carolina who attend several times a year. We offer traditional worship on Sunday mornings with scripture- based extemporaneous preaching by our Pastor, Dr. David Knotts.

INTENTION for September 7: Today is the birthday (1860) of artist Grandma Moses who did not take up painting until she was 70 years old. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect that we are never too old for our Lord's gifts to us to reach fulfillment.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 6: We live in a world where we are surrounded by beauty, sometimes we encounter beauty in the most surprising places. In our prayer life let us reflect on where we see beauty today and what we can do to create beauty in the lives of others.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 5: What is on your agenda for today? What plans have you made? What do you hope to accomplish? In our prayer lives today, let us try to focus on what is on our Lord's agenda for us this day. May we have the vision to see it and the faith to fulfill it.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 4: We need balance in our lives: work/play; night/day; sunshine/rain; time for togetherness/time for one’s self; the march of the changing seasons. In our prayer lives today, let us give thanks for the predictable rhythms of life, even the quiet ordinariness of daily tasks.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 3: In our prayer lives today, let us commend to our Lord those affected by the devastation swings of weather, as well as those whose lives and livelihoods are affected by the changing climate.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 2: Sometimes we measure the distance between us physically, such as next door, down the street, or in another country; at other times we measure the distance emotionally, by degrees of intimacy, people we are close to or people from whom we are estranged. Our Lord desires a relationship with us that is very intimate, closer even than our own breath or heartbeat. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect on the degree to which we recognize, desire, or accept His nearness in our daily lives; may it deepen our intimacy with our Lord.

INTENTION FOR SEPTEMBER 1: From the first day of school to commencement, our formal education has a beginning and a conclusion, but learning is a life-long process from birth until our last breath. In our prayer lives today, may we make it our goal to seek a greater understanding of our Lord’s grace as ever present and active in our daily living even in challenging times such as these.

INTENTION FOR AUGUST 31: We are told that “the Lord moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform.” If we are honest with ourselves, how often do we even notice or take the time to notice the Lord moving in and through our lives? In our prayer lives today, let us resolve afresh to pay more attention to the oft times mysterious rhythm of Divine Grace.

08/30/2026

INTENTION FOR AUGUST 30: Many people of faith strive to place our Lord at the center of their lives; “What would Jesus do?” they ask. In our prayer lives today, let us consider that perhaps the reverse is actually more crucial: to seek always to place our lives at the center of His.

INTENTION FOR AUGUST 29: "No man is an island," wrote the 16th century English cleric and poet John Donne, “entire of itself." In our prayer lives today, let us reflect on those who, for good or ill, have an impact on our lives and let us commend them to our Lord's care. At the same time let us ask our Lord for the insight and courage to understand the impact we have, for good or for ill, on our brothers and sisters.
