Intercourse United Methodist Church In*******se UMC invites everyone to join us for weekly Sunday worship and Bible Study.

In*******se United Methodist Church, located in the heart of Lancaster County Pennsylvania is a community of faith serving the spiritual needs of parishioners, neighbors, as well as visitors from around the corner and around the world. We are a small United Methodist community of faith with roots in the United Brethren tradition. We welcome all visitors, and have many visitors/sojourners who are vacationers and sightseers enjoying the beautiful Lancaster countryside. We are comprised of professed members, regular local visitors, and our extended family of visitors from as far away as Connecticut and North Carolina who attend several times a year. We offer traditional worship on Sunday mornings with scripture- based extemporaneous preaching by our Pastor, Dr. David Knotts.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 11: It is always a joy to chat with a friend over a cup of coffee or on the phone. It can lift our spirits and deepen our relationships. INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 10: Someone has suggested that a belief in life after death may be an act of courage instead of psychological denial, because it would mean living as if everything we did, no matter how small or ordinary, mattered. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect on the sobering truth that our lives really do matter, as do the lives of others. What we do and say does, in fact. matter in a reality which transcends time and place. What impact does that have on how we live and the intentionality of our words and deeds, our hopes and dreams?

INTENTION FOR TODAY OCTOBER 8: As they grow, we teach our children and grandchildren how to walk, talk, and navigate the social world; in turn they teach us the joy of discovery and beauty and delight of simple acts. In our prayer lives today, let us always commend our children and grandchildren to Our Lord's loving protection and let us with grateful hearts receive the gift of joy which they show us.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 7: We have all done or said things which have surprised even ourselves, suggesting that we do not know ourselves as well as we like to think we do. In our prayer lives today, let us remember that our Lord knows us through and through and has told us, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you."

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 6: Sometimes we are overtaken by events we feel helpless to change and not everything can be changed, but only lived through; however, sometimes our helplessness is less of a condition and more of a learned behavior. In our prayer lives today, let us remember that in our Lord, we have a resource who is our rock and our strength in times of trouble whether it is something we must endure with patience or when we are moved to overturn the tables of the moneychangers.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 5: Saint Francis continued— Francis reminded us to speak Our Lord’s message always, use words if necessary. In our prayer lives today, let us remind ourselves that the manner in which we lead our lives and how we relate to those we meet, is meant to be an antidote to the discord of the world.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 4: Today is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi whose statues grace many gardens and who is said to have preached to the birds and tamed a wolf at Gubbio. In our prayer lives today, let us remember the pets we have had who brought us such joy and pleasure and let us commend our animal friends, past and present, to Our Lord's loving protection. Let us give thanks for the gifts of companionship they give to us.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 3: When we read sacred scripture, we have a window into the mind and will of our Lord. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect that we are also afforded a mirror in whose reflection we can glimpse, for good or for ill, our own inner selves and a yardstick, albeit a disconcerting one, for our thoughts, words, and deeds.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 2: Like a thread which by itself can easily fray or break, when bound up with other threads becomes a strong cord which can bear great loads, so too when we live for ourselves alone, especially at the expense of others, our lives can easily fray, break or unravel. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect that when we bind ourselves in fellowship, friendship, love with others, and with our Lord in trusting faith, we gain a strength which can move mountains.

INTENTION FOR OCTOBER 1: As some in our nation wallow in the muck and mire of partisan politics or sink still lower into acts of violent intimidation, character assassination, or bald hatred, people of faith need to do more than pray. In our prayer lives today, let us remind ourselves that our Lord calls us to actively be peacemakers (be doers of the Word and not hearers only) and let us seek the courage to not be silent in the face of those forces which strip our country of its humanity.
