Intercourse United Methodist Church

Intercourse United Methodist Church In*******se UMC invites everyone to join us for weekly Sunday worship and Bible Study.

In*******se United Methodist Church, located in the heart of Lancaster County Pennsylvania is a community of faith serving the spiritual needs of parishioners, neighbors, as well as visitors from around the corner and around the world. We are a small United Methodist community of faith with roots in the United Brethren tradition. We welcome all visitors, and have many visitors/sojourners who are v

acationers and sightseers enjoying the beautiful Lancaster countryside. We are comprised of professed members, regular local visitors, and our extended family of visitors from as far away as Connecticut and North Carolina who attend several times a year. We offer traditional worship on Sunday mornings with scripture- based extemporaneous preaching by our Pastor, Dr. David Knotts.

INTENTION FOR JUNE 2
Some of the most wonderful stories we will ever "read" go unexplored because we fail to listen. The people around us have interesting stories to tell, lives of fascination and wonder, the telling of which can enrich and surprise us. In our prayer lives today, let us pray for the openness and curiosity to allow others to share their stories with us so that we may become better "readers” as we seek the gift of Holy listening.

INTENTION FOR JUNE 1: How often are the bright skies of our hopes and dreams overshadowed by the dark, roiling clouds of tragedy: mass shootings, hate crimes, governmental indifference? As our Lord ascended to his father, we were reminded once again that he has overcome the world. In our prayer lives today, may we claim afresh his Lordship and our citizenship in his Kingdom, reminding ourselves that hate will never have the final word, that evil will never have the final word, and that death will NEVER have the final word in our lives.

INTENTION FOR MAY 31: Turning the other cheek or going the second mile are not necessarily signs of weakness or foolishness, but can be acts of challenge to entrenched power and blind self-interest. In our prayer lives today, may we commit ourselves once again to our Lord’s grace and protection remembering that sometimes the most powerful weapons we have to deploy against the forces of darkness in our world are the hand which is not raised in anger and the word which is not spoken.

05/30/2026

INTENTION FOR MAY 30: A hand which is closed in a fist of anger or hatred can hold nothing but itself; only the hand opened in supplication is capable of receiving a blessing from our Lord, or taking the hand of another in friendship and welcome. In our prayer lives today, may we pray to our Lord that we may be people with open hands and hearts.

INTENTION FOR MAY 29:: Medical science is astounding. Advances are made daily. In our prayer lives today, let us offer prayers for those who give their lives, skills, and talents to the healing arts, commending them to the Great Physician who, through them, brings wholeness to body, soul. mind, and spirit.

INTENTION FOR MAY 28: An important part of a healthy and fulfilled life is the ability and willingness to play, to do something for the sheer pleasure the activity brings to us, not as an escape from daily life, but as a necessary counter-balance to the weight of our days. In our prayer lives today, let us commit ourselves to add more play and playfulness to our daily lives

05/27/2026

INTENTION FOR May 27: If we are to truly live, we must enter into the mystery of our Lord's greatest gift, love. At once tender and tough, fragile and fearsome. Life and love are indivisible and have depths we shall never fully plumb. In our prayer life today let us give thanks for life and love and ask His help to use them wisely.

INTENTION FOR MAY 26: In the social sphere of our lives, we recognize family, friends, and acquaintances; we value them and appreciate their presence. But there are other people, often complete strangers, with whom we interact for a few brief moments who have sometimes had a profound impact on our lives. In our prayer lives today, let us reflect on how our lives have been blessed by those brief encounters with people we will probably never meet again and at the same time consider that there are people out there who might be thinking the same about us; and let us commend them to our Lord’s care and protection.

INTENTION FOR MAY 25: My father, Ellis Knotts, and my father-in-law, Robert Mohr, were fortunate enough to return from World War II, many of their fellow soldiers did not. In our prayer lives today, may we, amid our parties and picnics today, pause to remember and say a prayer of "Thank You" for those who gave their lives for our freedom.

05/24/2026

INTENTION FOR MAY 24: We often pray for others, our family and friends, people we know whose presence in our lives is important, but have we ever stopped to consider there are people in this world who are totally alone, people who have no one to pray for them. In our prayer lives today, let us offer prayers for them: the homeless, the isolated and lonely, the "invisible" people in our world, commending them to our Lord’s tender care and striving for a more just society where people don’t get lost or are considered expendable.
