Dinner Time Meditation # 2,271 - Tuesday, October 6, 2026

Two verses today from the little book of Philemon. One is meant to be a salutation, and one is a benediction appearing as the last verse in the book. Philemon is a comparatively short book of the Bible of only one chapter. Please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the Philemon 3 & 25.

Philemon 3 (NASB95)
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 25 (NASB95)
25 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Just a short history about Paul's writing to Philemon. Incidentally, this is the shortest of Paul's writings. Paul writes to Philemon because one of Philemon's slaves had run a way and had come to Paul. The slave’s name was Onesimus. At the time of the writing Onesimus had become a believer in Jesus Christ. The book tells us that Paul had built a special relationship to Onesimus whom Paul was sending back to Philemon - see vs. 16. Later Paul expresses in vs. 18-19 that he accepts responsibility for Onesimus and any debt Onesimus might owe to Philemon. This suggests that Onesimus might have run away having taken things or money from Philemon. Paul wants to settle Onesimus account with Philemon.

Paul begins bidding both Grace and Peace to Philemon. Both are wonderful provisions from the Lord God so that we can live all that God calls us to in our Christian lives. I pray you know both God's love, grace and peace in your life as you walk with the Lord. Paul ends the book again wishing for God's grace in the life of Philemon.
Why does Paul state this again. Because God's grace extended to us and ministered to us via the Holy Spirit is one of the greatest elements of our faith. God's grace can strengthen us each and every day. I encourage you to pray to the Lord today. Ask Him for His peace and for His grace to be abundant as you live today. Remember Hebrews 4:16 as you pray... "Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Amen!

Dinner Time Meditation # 2,271 - Monday, October 5, 2026

"Grace be with you all." I can't think of a better greeting or salutation for a Monday morning. Grace be with you, that is God's grace, marvelous grace, infinite grace, all-supplying grace, grace that is greater than all our sins. Now that is a wake-up salutation for a. Monday morning. You find that simple salutation at the end of the epistle to Titus contained in the benedictory statement of Titus. It is a statement you could use as a salutation or a benediction. Please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the Titus 3:15.

Titus 3:15 (NASB95)
All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.

Titus 3:15 is one of the shortest benedictions if not 'the shortest'. Titus is a personal epistle written to Titus encouraging Titus in ministry. There are some great truths in the book of Titus. Teachings about Elders and service in the church, and the great teaching about the return of Christ. Hmmm, you don't remember what that teaching is??? I will share it with you...
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

Talking from the benediction, "Grace be with you all", we note the grace of God that is bringing salvation to all men has already appeared and we are looking for the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. This makes the benediction of this book so fitting. God's grace appeared bringing salvation and then His grace is available to us for all that we need to follow and serve the Lord with our lives. Thus, it is fitting for us to bid one another that His grace be with us and that is why Paul closes his letter to Titus, "Grace be with you all." And so, in keeping with Pauline, epistolatory writing (how do you like those words?), I close this meditation by saying to you all... Grace be with you all. Amen!

Dinner Time Meditation # 2,270 - Thursday, October 1, 2026

Welcome to October! Our Oktoberfest Meditation takes us to 2 Timothy. However, this is one of the simplest benedictions we have done. Just a one-line statement. Please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the 2 Timothy 4:22

2 Timothy 4:22 (NASB95)
22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

2 Timothy is a very special book which is full of dynamic truths for our lives. I hope as you read these two special truths below you are inspired to take some minutes to read the entire book of 2 Timothy. Here are two dynamic truths from 2 Timothy:
2 Timothy 2:11–13 (NASB95)
11 It is a trustworthy statement:
For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him;
If we deny Him, He also will deny us;
13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

2 Timothy 3:14–17 (NASB95)
14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

The dynamic nature of these truth's leads us to our benediction for today. Based on these truth's, chapter 4 states encouragements and challenges as well as greetings and salutations. This brings us to a simple statement of benediction. It is a statement seeking the Lord to be with your spirit. I think what Paul was saying to Timothy was that there are many blessings, but also many trials we face in life. Do not let the trials and troubles of life knock you down but stand firm in your spirit knowing the Lord is with you as well as the power of His word and promises. Remind yourself daily that the Lord is with you and then remind yourself of the last half of this benediction... Grace be with you! Remind yourself that you can walk with the Lord and through tests and trials because the grace of God which strengthens you as you face every need. Praise the Lord and Amen!

Today is an unusual 'Chapter 1 Benedictory Statement' found in 1 Timothy 1:17 and it even comes with an 'Amen'. To really understand this benedictory statement, you need to read the 16 verses prior to it. Paul is exclaiming his salvation and amazing truth that God poured out mercy on Him, even though he was a persecutor of the church and certainly did not deserve God's mercy. I ask you to please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the 1 Timothy 1:17

1 Timothy 1:17 (NASB95)
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

This is an exclamation Paul is making primarily because of his salvation as the worst of sinners, yet God had mercy and did work of salvation through the church in spite of those who live apart from God and evil ways. In verses 15 & 16 we read... 15 "It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life." Paul realizes that God chose him as an example to be saved so others would know the mercy and patience of God to believe for salvation. Amen! Out of the reality of his salvation Paul exclaims honor and glory to the God is the King, to the God who is eternal, to the God who is immortal, to the God who is invisible. Paul was enamored with the God who saved Him.

My challenge today is to ask you to think about your salvation and make an exclamation to God because of your salvation. Exclaim to God because God chose you for His plan of salvation. If you write something down feel free to share with me. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!!! Amen!

Double Take - Double Benediction Tuesday! Back by popular demand (well not really), at least in my mind it is a popular demand of a second Double Benediction. It is interesting that in both the book of 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians there are two or double benedictory statements. Like I mentioned yesterday, this is due to information in the book that leads the author to just declare a statement of praise, even if it is not the end of the book but in the middle. You will have to go back and read 2 Thessalonians 2 to get the full impact of the first benedictory statement which focuses on the Tribulation period and the coming of the Anti-Christ and the salvation of the believers. I ask you to please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 & 3:16-18.

2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 (NASB95)
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

2 Thessalonians 3:16–18 (NASB95)
16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!
17 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Today is Double Benediction Tuesday.
Benediction # 1 - 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 is a statement of both comfort and strength. It is a plea to both Christ and God the Father to give comfort in light of the struggles of life. In this context it is a plea for comfort and strength in spite of an all-out assault of Satan on those who believe in Jesus. God's salvation is greater than any assault of Satan and any evil he may bring on believers. God's salvation and grace is greater to comfort and strengthen us through any struggle. Even though current believers in Jesus Christ will not be part of the Tribulation period, we are blessed with comfort and strength of salvation knowing God has destined us for His hand of blessing on our life and our witness for the Lord. Amen!

Benediction # 2 - 2 Thessalonians 3:16-18... "Now may the Lord of peace continually grant you peace in every circumstance..." What a special benedictory statement! In the midst of struggles which Paul mentions in this chapter, we are reminded of the Lord of peace to give us His peace in every circumstance along with a second desire that the abundant and amazing grace of Jesus Christ be with us! Amen and Amen!

Let me close reminding you of a special statement from our Lord Jesus Christ coming on the night in which he was betrayed and arrested... “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." (John 14:27 NASB95)

Double Benediction Monday! It is a new day of celebrating the Lord I just made up and you get to be part of it. I can tell you are excited or I hope you are. It is interesting that in the book of 1 Thessalonians has two benedictory statements. This is due to information in the book that leads the author to just declare a statement of praise, even if it is not the end of the book but in the middle. You will have to go back and read 1 Thessalonians 3 to get the full impact of the statement which focuses on the ministry among believers. For now, please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 & 5:23-28.

1 Thessalonians 3:11–13 (NASB95)
11 Now may our God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord direct our way to you;
12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you;
13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.

1 Thessalonians 5:23–28 (NASB95)
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
25 Brethren, pray for us.
26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
27 I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Today is Double Benediction Monday.
Benediction # 1 - 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 is a praise to the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ seeking the Lord to increase the believers in a great love for one another. Secondly, it is a praise & prayer for God to establish their heart in holiness till they meet Christ. What a special thought that we should all share, which is, to be blameless till the day of Christ. Are you read to meet the Lord in holiness or are dedicated to serve Him?

Benediction # 2 - 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28 is again a praise & prayer for God to sanctify or make you holy or fully dedicated to the Lord. It is a more extensive prayer than what appears in 3:11-13 specifically seeking for your spirit, soul and body be completely preserved till the coming of Jesus Christ. Most importantly is verse 5:24 declaring that God can work in you and bring it to pass. The benediction draws to a conclusion seeking for God's provision of God's grace to work abundantly in your life (28).

My exhortation to you today based on these benedictions is for you & I to dedicate your life fully to the glory of the Lord in whatever you do, working or retired, you do everything to the glory of the Lord and be ready to declare His glory if anyone asks you. Say a prayer of dedication of your day to the Lord right now and do this every day. Know that God is with you and will help you by His grace to preserve your body, soul and spirit to glorify Him. Amen and Amen!

Today at Indian Hill Bible Church, we continued through John’s Gospel with “Behold, the Lamb of God” from John 1:19–34.

John the Baptist knew his mission wasn’t to draw attention to himself, but to point people to Jesus:

“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” — John 1:29

Our calling is much the same: prepare the way, point people to Jesus, and behold the Lamb of God.

Go tell someone about Jesus this week!

Dinner Time Meditation # 2,266 - Thursday, September 24, 2026

Philippians has two benedictory statements at the end of the epistle. Philippians is a special book with a lot of important promises for us as believers. If you have 30 minutes or less today, take time to read through the book of Philippians and you can rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!
Please take time to read, re-read, meditate on and pray over the Philippians 4:19-23.

Philippians 4:19–23 (NASB95)
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.
22 All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

I included verse 19 because it is a favorite promise of mine and likely of yours?
Verse 20 is one of 2 benedictory statements. This verse is a praise to God to Whom we seek His glory forever and ever.
Verse 21 contains a cordial outreach of greeting from all the saints in one church to those in another church. It is good to see the unity of those from one church to the other.
Verse 22 is a similar greeting, not just from all the saints, but directly from Caesar's household. This notes for us the effectiveness of the gospel to actually reach into Caesars household. Praise the Lord! Keep sharing, you never know who or when one will respond to the Gospel.
Verse 23 - We get to the last benedictory statement. The blessing of God's grace is specially expressed to the saints of the church. We all need God's amazing grace, not just God's riches at Christ expense, but the provision of grace to meet all our needs or make us able to do all in the will of God for our lives! Amen!
