From France to Indiana, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin (St. Theodora) lived an impactful life that still continues to inspire. She is remembered as a woman devoted to prayer, an educator, caregiver and leader. She was a champion of justice and was empathetic to those who suffered, inspiring the work of her Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods today.

Today, October 3, the Church remembers St. Théodore Guérin, also known as Saint Mother Théodore or St. Theodora. Born Anne-Thérèse Guérin in Brittany, France on October 2, 1798, she entered the Sisters of Providence in 1823 and devoted her life to educating children, caring for the sick and poor, and trusting in divine providence.

In 1840, she led a group of sisters to Indiana, USA, where she founded the congregation of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. There she opened schools, orphanages, and institutions of mercy, even amid hardship, ill health, and prejudice.

Saint Théodore died on May 14, 1856, at the mother-house in Indiana. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1998 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.
St. Théodore Guérin, pray for us!

Sts. Marcellinus and Peter were martyrs who lived during the fourth century in Rome. Marcellinus was a priest, and Peter primarily served as an exorcist. Although little other detail is known about their lives, they are remembered for their zeal and piety. Veneration of them started as early as the fifth century and is particularly strong in Italy; many icons of Marcellinus and Peter exist throughout centuries of Italian art.

They are martyred at Rome in the year 303, persecuted under Emperor Diocletian. St. Marcellinus is a priest and St. Peter is an exorcist. Their names are mentioned in Eucharistic Prayer I, in the Roman Canon of the Mass. St. Peter helped the daughter of Artemius, the keeper of the prison by exorcising her, she was eventually liberated from the bonds of evil spirits. St. Peter referred and brought the family of Artemius to St. Marcellinus the priest to be baptized. Serenus the judge heard of the actions of St. Marcellinus and Peter and summoned them before him, he threatened and utter bitter words against them and offered them freedom if they deny Jesus Christ. They were imprisoned and tortured separately but the more that their faith is challenge, all the more their faith increased and eventually beheaded for their faith and love in Christ.

June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus—a devotion that reminds us of the immeasurable love Christ has for every human soul.

The origins of this devotion can be traced to the visions received by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque between 1673 and 1675. During these apparitions, Our Lord revealed His Sacred Heart, burning with love, crowned with thorns, and wounded by humanity's indifference. He invited the faithful to respond to that love through prayer, reparation, and trust in His mercy.

In one of these revelations, Jesus asked that the Friday after the Octave of Corpus Christi be dedicated to honoring His Sacred Heart. What began as a private revelation eventually spread throughout France before being extended to the entire Church by Pope Pius IX in 1856.
Today, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart remains one of the most beloved feasts of the liturgical year, reminding us that the Heart of Jesus is a refuge for sinners, a source of mercy, and a sign of God's enduring love for humanity.

As we begin this month dedicated to His Sacred Heart, let us entrust our families, our intentions, and our hearts to Christ, who never ceases to love us.

oday the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Justin Martyr (c. 100-165). St. Justin Martyr, pray for us 🙏
Born and raised in Nablus (near biblical Shechem) in Samaria, Justin became convinced that Christ’s coming brought about the fulfillment of countless oracles from the prophets of ancient Israel:
"There existed, long before our time, certain men more ancient than all those who are esteemed philosophers, both righteous and beloved by God, who spoke by the Divine Spirit, and foretold events which would take place, and which are now taking place. They are called prophets…. Their writings are still extant, and he who has read them is very much helped in his knowledge of the beginning and end of things. . . And those events which have happened, and those which are happening, compel you to assent to the utterances made by them” (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew, ch. 7).
Justin identifies many specific instances of Jesus fulfilling OT prophecy, including:
Bethlehem as the place of His birth (Micah 5:2);
He would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14);
His entry into Jerusalem on the foal of an ass (Zechariah 9:9);
Many particular details of His life, ministry, suffering, death and resurrection (Psalms 22, 69; Isaiah 53, Daniel 7);
The destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70 (Daniel 9).
Likewise, Justin teaches the Eucharist is the fulfillment of prophecy (Malachi 1:11), and is among the earliest voices to profess the Real Presence of the flesh and blood of Jesus in the Eucharist.
"And this food is called among us Εὐχαριστία [the Eucharist] ... For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Saviour, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh” (First Apology, 66).

Trinity Sunday (the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity) is celebrated in Western Christianity on the first Sunday after Pentecost. It honors the Christian doctrine of one God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—rather than a specific event or person. In 2026, it falls on May 31.

Date: Sunday after Pentecost (56 days after Easter).

Significance: Celebrates the central mystery of the Christian faith.

History: Pope John XXII approved the feast for the entire church in 1334, though it was celebrated in some areas as early as the 10th century.Liturgical Color: White, symbolizing the purity and joy of the mystery.

Eastern Tradition: While the West has a specific day, Eastern Orthodoxy considers every Sunday a celebration of the Trinity, with the first day of Pentecost often dedicated to it.
