LOVE IS LOUDER: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR OUT LOUD

Jesus is clear about how to love God and one another. We are to love God with all our hearts, with all our strength, and with all our minds, and love our neighbor as ourselves.

The United Church of Christ's "Love is Louder: Love Your Neighbor OUT LOUD" campaign embodies the testimony of Jesus and calls on the Church to be faithful siblings to one another – friend and stranger – for the sake of love.

"Love is Louder" is a movement where together we can support the spiritual, physical, and mental well-being of LGBTQIA+ siblings, and this UCC initiative offers faith communities with resources and tools for just action and care.

Let’s root ourselves in the spirit of Jesus’s call to love our neighbors as ourselves. Learn more at https://www.ucc.org/loveislouder today!

Today in worship, Rev. Elizabeth Price delivered a message titled, "Parts Is Parts." She began by recalling a Wendy's commercial from the 1980s, which featured a humorous discussion of chicken parts as they relate to the whole. She then reminded us that we, the church, are one body with many parts, as God intended, and we need all the parts, but it's sometimes all too easy for us to overvalue or devalue our own unique parts. We must recall that we are all valued parts, now more than ever.

Elizabeth also shared more about the work of the Vision Team, which has gathered for more than a year to engage in a listening process to discern a vision for First Congregational and create a proposal to go to the Church Council and then roll out to the congregation, who will be an integral part of the process.

Today in worship, we sang praises to God together!

First Congregational's Music Director, Sean Baker, shared that even though the Mayflower Singers help lead worship each week from the choir loft, we are ALL in the choir. When we sing together, it's a team effort -- a community activity that Sean calls "communison."

As we sang hymns together, Sean walked us through the Bible, pointing out that singing has been a key part of the story of God's people since the beginning. From Moses and Miriam to Deborah, and from King David to King Jehoshaphat, singing played an important role in the celebration of God's work among humans. Sean also highlighted songs in the New Testament around the birth of Jesus (the Benedictus, the Magnificat, Gloria in Excelsis) and reminded us that song was a part of the adult Jesus's spiritual practices.

Also in worship, Family Faith Ministry Leader Gracelynn Royer sang "Rainbow" by Kacey Musgraves, and the Mayflower Singers provided music to lead us in worship, as always.

We're grateful for our talented staff and volunteer worship leaders, and we look forward to continued opportunities to sing together to God!

THE PEOPLE'S PRAYERS FOR PEACE

We pray for more love to flood this world.

We pray that everyday, we can find the good and that it keeps us going.

I pray that others will see this love and it will be a domino effect all over.

I pray for all those who don't have a safe space or even a place to sleep.

Keep those people safe God.
