Arlington Avenue Southern Baptist Church

Arlington Avenue Southern Baptist Church The church started February 1957 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Oliver. In a few weeks they moved to a one room building in the 5400 block of Madison Ave.

The church was organized July 1957 with 19 charter members, Carl Harlow was the pastor. Soon after property was purchased at 6440 South Arlington Avenue, lumber was donated and services were held in the first unit in November of 1958. A second unit was added and dedicated on April 22, 1962. The second until had a seating capacity for 250, and the first until was partitioned into 9 class rooms and an assembly room.

Wonderful day with wonderful people. The 1960s youth group part of our church family had a reunion, at the church we grew up in, Arlington Avenue Baptist. We’ve come to realize how unique and special our shared experience is. It was so good to see everyone who was there, and hear all the stories we had! A real blessing to be surrounded by these good people!
