A trail of distinction
I was reviewing a biblical figure who encourages, intercedes, and restores lives-Barnabus
His name was originally Joses but the Apostles gave him the surname of Barnabas (son of consolation or encouragement). He encouraged others so much they gave him a name that fit his character and purpose-what does that say about him? Acts 4:36
He was a CHEERFUL GIVER; selling his property and land for distribution but never went without-Acts 4:37
Interceded on behalf of Saul(Paul) and DEFENDED HIS CONVERSION instead of being judgmental or bias-Acts 9:27
Was a TEACHER for the Gospel-Acts 13:1
Knew how to WORK WITH OTHERS to further the Gospel-Acts 11:25-26
He finally helped me to see the true essence of his influence in chapter 11:20-24
1) He seen the grace of God
-Barnabas realized that it had to be God that cause Saul to be converted, the adding of souls to the kingdom, and disciples being created by teaching the gospel. Also we do not deserve all the opportunities, favor, and love we receive (grace) so like him we stay thankful and eager to exhort (encourage) others due to gratefulness.
2) Barnabas was good, full of the Holy Ghost and Faith
He accepted fully his Lord and savior so the Holy Spirit dwelled in him. The spirit of God took lead in his life not the “leftovers “ in his life. He practiced being good, thinking good and speaking good things! God was pleased with him because he had faith in God ; for without faith it is impossible to please God Heb 11:6
And 3) with purpose Cleave unto the Lord
Don’t let go of the savior hand…”while you are on this Christian journey, I want Jesus, to hold my hand”. Leave the world ways and cleave unto God’s power, promises and purpose. if you think Barnabas had influence, you will have much much more on your personal trail of distinction when you encourage, give, intercede on behalf of the disenfranchised , work well with others, practice being good, trust God, and lead with humility…you have your assignment; now go blaze your trail; somebody needs your gift of consolation!
