Jamuary 19, 2026,
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
With all the things going on in our nation and in our world, let us always remember GOD is still in control. And through His word we can always choose love. Choosing love is what Martin did. And it is what we can do too.

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Gracious and Eternal God,
As a new year dawns, we pause to give You thanks.

Thank You for walking with us through every joy and challenge of the year now past. You were faithful in every season, and Your grace carried us through.

As we step into this new year, we place it fully in Your hands. Go before us, Lord—guide our steps, renew our hearts, and strengthen our faith. Where there is fear, bring peace. Where there is weariness, bring hope. Make us instruments of Your love in our homes, our church, and our community.

We entrust this year to You, confident in Your promises and grounded in Your grace.

In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen.

📖 “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
— Psalm 121:8

🕊️ Happy New Year from our church family to yours. God’s blessings in the year ahead.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving Our Savior was blessed to be able to give away 15 Thanksgiving baskets. As people came to pick up their baskets, it warmed our hearts to see and feel the genuine appreciation from people. So many shared stories of why our baskets meant so much.

Later during Thanksgiving week, one of our basket recipients reached out for some additional assistance. She shared that she has stumbled on hard times recently and is facing eviction among some other hardships. I really wish we had the resources to help because the last thing we need is more homelessness in our community but we just don’t have financial resources at this time to be able to help in that way. We directed her to some resources in the community that may be able to help as well as offered to help with employment leads and resume/interview prep if that would be helpful.

There are so many people struggling right now. Utility companies are monopolies and are gouging consumers, landlords are charging and raising rents above what the average person can pay, house prices make it almost impossible for the average American to purchase a home right now, grocery prices are way up…it’s hard.

But yesterday as I fellowshipped with our Pastor for the day, our conversation shifted to hope. He shared a story about how important hope is in our survival and how our faith provides us with that essential ingredient necessary for us to push through. There was a lab experiment done with mice where they were placed underwater for a time. And as time passed they started to struggle. And just as they were on the brink of giving up, the lab tech pulled them out of the water, rescuing them. They let the mice dry off and regain themselves and then they were put back under water. This time, when the mice struggled, they went longer and persevered longer because they had been rescued before so they held out that “hope” of being rescued again (which they were.😊) Through our faith we have that same hope that helps us persevere through the struggles and come out on the other side.

If you are struggling financially, with your physical or mental health, in your faith, etc….HOLD ON!! And open your heart and mind to the Holy Spirit that was left here for us so that you can discern what it is God has in store for your life. The path may not always be easy but it will be worth it on the other side.

Today, I pray for everyone, including Our Savior, who is in the midst of various struggles. I pray that you turn to Jesus for your needed strength to persevere through it as He sent his Holy Spirit as our helper. I pray that we are thankful and conscious of our blessings in the midst of the struggle because we can sometimes lose sight of them. And Lord we thank you for sending your Son to carry out the ultimate rescue for Your people. Through Christ, we are redeemed and will one day experience a life without any struggle. In that is our hope. In Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen

A thought for today:

Psalms 107:1 says
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever.

Then Psalms 107 goes on in this cadence to give various examples of how over and over again God saves mankind. And in each cadence it says:

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

God has been delivering us since the beginning of time, over and over again. He sent his son to die for us as the ultimate deliverance for us, from sin our ultimate trouble. He didn’t have to do that, but His LOVE endures forever! And just as Psalm 107:2 says, Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story, those he redeemed from the hand of the foe..

My fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, we are in fact “the redeemed”. We MUST share and give thanks as witness so that others too may be redeemed and REALIZE their redemption. I’d encourage you to read Psalms 107, the full chapter. If you can’t think of anything else to be thankful for, be grateful for God’s enduring and unwavering love, that you are (or can be) redeemed through Christ.

I’ll close with the last verse from Psalms 107.
Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.

Happy Thanksgiving Our Savior friends and family! Give thanks today and always!

Yesterday after church, Our Savior was able to give away 15 Thanksgiving baskets. It is a proud moment to know that our small congregation was able to tap into community partners as well as generous donations from our members to make it happen. We'd like to send a special thank you to our neighbors of the Highland Vicinity Neighborhood Association who generously donated as well as to Trader Joe's Grocery Store. Their contributions really helped us reach our goal of 15 baskets.

On the surface, 15 baskets may not seem like a lot. But to put it in perspective, on average we have between 22-25 active, regular members. And despite that, we are blessed beyond measure and are always looking for ways that we can give back. This is one of the things that makes Our Savior so special! Given our small numbers right now, we should not be able to sustain our church but somehow, some way, God always provides for us.

And the most rewarding part? The genuine appreciation of our gifts to those that received the baskets. There were so many stories shared with us that moved us and let us know that our efforts were truly a blessing to all those receiving them. From the young mother and daughter who just moved back to the city a week ago, to the young man who lost his mom and needed some help with Thanksgiving for their family, and everyone in between. Our hearts are so full.

We are living in a time where the world can sometimes feel so cold. I pray that we all open our hearts to the Holy Spirit and let Him help us all live kinder, more compassionate, and to give freely just as Jesus does for us. Our Savior sends warm wishes to everyone this Thanksgiving and during this holiday season!
