Kadampa Meditation Center Indianapolis

Kadampa Meditation Center Indianapolis KMC Indianapolis is an oasis of peace in Indy. Everyone is welcome to drop in for any of our mindfulness and meditation classes offered throughout the week!

We use Buddha’s teachings as practical methods for transforming all our daily activities. KMC Indianapolis provides a peaceful and inspiring environment in which anyone regardless of background or belief can learn about and practice meditation and mindfulness. Open to everyone, the KMC Indy offers a year-round program of meditation classes, day courses, and retreats that offer practical advice on

how to apply Buddha's teachings to our daily activities. By integrating our experience of mindfulness and meditation into everything we do, life becomes less stressful, relationships become more stable and rewarding, and we can find meaning and purpose despite how challenging our life may be. Founded in 1998, KMC Indy is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU) which is an international association of Mahayana Buddhist centres founded by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The aim of NKT-IKBU is to offer Kadampa Buddhism - an especially pure and practical presentation of Buddha's teachings - to the people of our modern world. Don't hesitate to check out a meditation class this week and see for yourself!

Puja. What does that mean? Pujas are special methods for generating positive states of mind to help us make progress on our path to permanent peace and happiness. During pujas we recite prayers and requests both verbally and mentally. Buddhist prayers are often referred to as ‘sadhanas’, which translates to ritual prayers for spiritual attainments. Regular puja practice is a method for attaining realizations on our spiritual path and is powerful when practiced in a group setting. During some ritual pujas we also make food and drink offerings, known as tsog offerings, and we come together as community to enage in a puja party afterwards to enjoy the offerings. This is Fred, Kathy and Gen Chokyi at "Wishfulfilling Jewel" with Tsog.

"Offering to the Spiritual Guide" is happening at 10am today (and on the 10th & 25th of each month). See our calendar for puja times Indianapolis:

Our January Away Retreat is getting closer 🧘

FRI, Jan 30 - SUN, Feb 1 — Clear Sky: Discovering the Peaceful Nature of Your Mind weekend away retreat at Waycross Camp & Convention Center, with Gen Kelsang Chokyi

Our problems are like clouds in the sky. We all know that when the storms disappear and the clouds fade away, the sky becomes clear, still and bright.

In the same way our mind always has the potential to be peaceful, clear and positive. That is its true nature. We don’t have to force peace into our mind. We just have to understand our own mind and how to uncover its natural potential.
During this away retreat, Gen Chokyi will explore “what exactly is my mind?” based on the wisdom of the Mahamudra masters. The retreat will provide us with the opportunity to experience the vast space of mental peace that already exists within all our minds while learning to improve our concentration and experience of meditation.
