We're excited to point our community toward an event happening right here in Indy tomorrow night.

Karen Swallow Prior โ€” author, professor, and one of the most thoughtful voices writing at the intersection of faith and culture today โ€” will be at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church for an evening that promises to challenge how we think about calling and vocation in this cultural moment.

Dr. Prior has spent her career asking hard, honest questions about vocation, story, and what it means to engage a broken world with both conviction and grace. Her books โ€” including You Have a Calling, The Evangelical Imagination, and On Reading Well โ€” have shaped readers across the theological spectrum, and her writing shows up everywhere from Christianity Today and First Things to The New York Times, Vox and The Atlantic.

If you're looking for an evening that will keep you thinking โ€” about your own personal vocation and calling and how we engage culture as faithful Christians together - this one's worth clearing your calendar for.

We'll see you there!

This Tuesday, Common Ground Northeast was honored to be able to host the (&) Campaign Indy and National Association of Evangelicals event โ€œMinneapolis and Springfield: What Have We Learned?โ€, featuring first hand accounts of the immigrant experiences in Minneapolis and Springfield, OH, and the border with Mexico. Together we leaned from the deeply personal reports and pastoral wisdom from Yonathan Moya (Yonathan Moya / Border Perspective and Viles Dorsainvil (Hatian Community Help & Support Center), and wrestled with questions of living faith, immigration, and the intersection of justice and public witness. We heard an enlightening and helpful panel discussion including Indiana faith leaders Kristin Clements-Effner at Coalition for our Immigrant Neighbors and Zach Samara from Immigrant Connection , and had the opportunity to speak with local and national organizations (including Bethany Christian Services) working to do the hard work of love and justice in the realm of immigration and care for our neighbors.

If you werenโ€™t able to make it but want to learn more how you can help, follow our friends here on IG and reach out to see where you can help meet their needs.

It was a joy to host this discussion, and weโ€™re looking forward to doing the work of connection and serving more in this area!

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Juneteenth ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

On June 19, 1865, freedom that had been declared two and a half years earlier finally reached the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas. Today we remember that gap โ€” between freedom proclaimed and freedom realized โ€” and we recommit to closing it wherever it still exists.

As a church, we believe the Gospel isnโ€™t silent on justice. Jesus opened His ministry declaring good news to the captives and freedom for the oppressed (Luke 4:18). Racial reconciliation isnโ€™t an add-on to our faith โ€” itโ€™s part of what it means to follow Him.

Today we give thanks for the resilience of Black Americans, we lament how long freedom delayed, and we recommit to the work of justice and reconciliation in our city and beyond.
