Morning Manna: Hearing God’s Voice
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
One of the greatest questions believers ask is, “How do I know when God is speaking?” We often expect thunder from heaven, a dramatic sign, or an unmistakable moment. Yet, more often than not, God speaks in ways that require us to slow down, quiet the noise, and pay attention.
God’s voice is not always loud, but it is always clear in direction and consistent with His Word. He speaks through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, conviction, circumstances, and sometimes through a quiet stirring in your spirit. The challenge is not that God has stopped speaking—it is that life becomes so loud that we stop listening.
We live in a noisy world. Social media, opinions, fear, pressure, busyness, and even our own emotions can drown out spiritual sensitivity. If we are going to hear God’s voice, we must intentionally make room for Him.
Hearing God requires proximity. Sheep recognize the shepherd’s voice because they stay near the shepherd. Sometimes God’s voice comforts. Sometimes it corrects. Sometimes it redirects. Sometimes it simply whispers, “Trust Me.” The question is not only, “Can I hear God?” but “Am I willing to obey what He says?”
When God speaks, obedience brings clarity. Often we want the whole blueprint, while God gives only the next step. Faith is trusting His voice even when you cannot see the whole path.
Today, pause long enough to listen. Before reacting, moving, posting, deciding, or worrying—ask, “Lord, what are You saying?” Then sit still long enough to hear.
What voices have been louder than God’s voice in your life lately?
Lord, help us quiet every distraction that competes for our attention. Tune our hearts to hear Your voice clearly. Give us discernment to know when You are speaking, wisdom to recognize Your direction, and courage to obey even when we do not understand. Help us to stay close enough to You that Your voice becomes familiar and trusted. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
In His service,
Pastor Weems
