"All are welcome here."

It's on the sign outside a lot of churches. And it's probably even true in the sense that nobody gets stopped at the door.

But saying it doesn't make it true, and it's not the same thing as a church actually doing the work.

The Book of Discipline's discriminatory language was removed at the 2024 General Conference, and that matters. But removing discriminatory language at the denominational level does not mean LGBTQ+ people are affirmed and celebrated for who they were created to be in every local church. It just means the door isn't locked anymore. It doesn't mean every congregation has decided LGBTQ+ people belong as co-creators of that space, not just guests in it.

That's the difference with a Reconciling congregation. They don't leave it to guesswork. They say clearly, publicly, what they believe about LGBTQ+ people.

Ask your church whether they've done the work, or just the branding.

Nominations are now open for the 2027 RMN Board of Directors.

We're seeking individuals with a heart for intersectional LGBTQ+ justice and a real vision for the future of the Reconciling movement. Since the 2024 General Conference, we've stepped into a new era of United Methodism — one with meaningful openings for deeper inclusion in the U.S., while the fight for full inclusion continues in UMC communities around the world.

Board members help shape RMN's strategic direction, serve on committees, and support our work at Convocations and General Conference. If you know someone who'd be a strong fit — or if that someone is you — we'd love a nomination.

Read the latest writing from our General Secretary, Rev. Stephanie York Arnold:

"I tell you this story because that kind of belonging and empowerment is my dream for what GCSRW helps the Church live into. I believe this has always been our identity, but we’ve had seasons where we have leaned in deeply, and seasons we have treaded carefully. We are done treading carefully. Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world must mean inclusion, love, acceptance, belonging, and empowerment for ALL, or it doesn’t mean anything at all. I want us to radically lean into our mandate: challenging our worldwide Church to the full and equitable inclusion of women at every level of leadership. Not just for women’s sake, but for all people, because the true liberation of one should always be the liberation of all."

United Women in Faith celebrates Pride Month by reminding us of the continued need to uplift members of the LGBTQ+ community in this moment of harmful rhetoric and public policy. We believe that God's love is never limited by who you are and who you love. We endeavor to protect the rights, liberties, health, and lives of all our siblings—regardless of their identity. Every person has sacred worth and dignity.
