If you're not humming verse 4 of Earth & All Stars, here's your earworm. We're presenting a sound effect instead of the tune to make you dive for your Hymnal 1982 (No. 412) which you can hear the congregation singing at the end of the worship livestream yesterday, June 7, 2026. (Hop on over to our YouTube channel...)

O God, from whom all good proceeds: Grant that by your inspiration we may think those things that are right, and by your merciful guiding may do them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

In the late 1950s, this priest came to Indianapolis to lead St. George's Episcopal Church, a downtown parish in the Old Southside of the city on West Morris Street. Within a few years, the decision was made to close the church (the building is still there on Church Street at Morris Street). The priest moved the congregation to the new suburbs on East Thompson Road, and the Rev. Malcolm Boyd came every Sunday with a picnic basket carrying the holy vessels for Eucharist to celebrate in rented quarters. Eventually a building was built.

What the Rev. Malcolm Boyd did next in his professional life blazed trails for many religious people and artists for the next 60 years.

Watch this cherished interview with Malcolm, who began his professional life as a Hollywood public relations man for film star Mary Pickford ... and then answered a call to serve God and the world, including leading an illegal Mass at the Pentagon and traveling the South with Freedom Riders.

St. Timothy's is still "out" there, providing extravagant welcome and inclusion, investing hope, money and care to build a diverse congregation intent on following Jesus.

Rev. Boyd was recorded for the 50th anniversary of the parish. He was a gay icon in his life, the first out Episcopal priest in the denomination; and a writer of poetry, plays and books.

O Triune God: thank you. We feast on all you set before us in Creation!

We were blessed to have fine preaching from Heather Campbell, diocesan youth minister, and our digital campus can catch that on our YouTube livestream.

And we celebrated our graduates, and recognized our youth group, and prayed for our Godly Play children.

And bless us, O Lord, we’re eating a fine picnic lunch of burgers, dogs, chicken patties, empanadas, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, broccoli salad, pasta salad, tea, lemonade, coffee hour coffee and water.

AMEN.

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
