I just want to take a moment to thank God for men in my life that I know I can go to who will shoot straight and not just tell me what I want to hear. I have several people like this but today, I called on four of you and you did not disappoint. Thank you for your counsel. Please continue to join me in prayer for guidance and wisdom.

In Ephesians 4, Paul tells the church to forgive one another, as God in Christ forgave us.

Thinking back to the moment God forgave me of my sins. What initiated that forgiveness?

If you're calvanist, you might believe that God forgave you and then you put your faith in Him. Not being a calvanist myself, I believe I came to a realization that I'm a sinner, in need of forgiveness, and it was at the moment that my heart cried out in repentance, acknowledging that Jesus is God and that He died on the cross, was buried and rose 3 days later, that I received forgiveness of my sins.

So, it would seem to me, in order to forgive someone the way God in Christ forgave us, that person must understand that they sinned and (at the very least) have a heart posture of remorse or repentance.

Recently, I heard it said, "forgiveness is about my heart, not his." Interesting.

How does that line up with what scripture says?
Does that mean that God has to forgive us even if we're not sorry and if He doesn't, He has a bad heart posture (sin)?

In Matthew 18, Jesus gives us an example of forgiveness but it includes the transgressor falling on his knees asking for forgiveness. In verse 32 it says, "...I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me."

Does the Bible ever teach us to forgive those who are unrepentant?...those who will continue to cause pain?

We can spend our energy talking about the terrible qualities and character traits of our leaders and representatives or we can pray for them. One is more productive than the other. Let's spend more time in prayer.
