Last Sunday, we wrapped up our time sitting with the story of the Woman at the Well. A few highlights:

*️⃣ We continue to look at the historical conflict with Samaria, going back to Ezra and Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the temple.
*️⃣ We look at how the Samaritans sided with the Seleucids during the Maccabean Revolt during the intertestamental period and how this fueled these people groups hating one another.
*️⃣ We see how it’s just like Jesus to break down our social hierarchies and stereotypes to reconcile people together.
*️⃣ We look at the importance and value placed on women in Christianity.
*️⃣ We discover the significance of the woman leaving her water pot in verse 28 — a beautiful picture of the Gospel.
*️⃣ Jesus is saying it’s now time. The harvest is coming.
*️⃣ The Samaritans recognized Jesus as the Messiah even without majority of the prophecies in the Old Testament, as they were not included in the Pentateuch they studied.
*️⃣ We look back to Joshua 24 and we see Jesus standing in the same place, seeking new worshippers in “spirit and in truth.”

Will we see you on Sunday? Let’s celebrate the Lord’s Day together with worship and fellowship as we continue in the book of John.

Last Sunday’s sermon on John 4:15-30 is now live on the Teachings page of our website and on YouTube! A few highlights:

*️⃣ We look back through Israel’s history, through the splitting of the kingdom, and where Samaria falls in that picture.
*️⃣ We look at the “10 Lost Tribes of Israel” and why that’s relevant here.
*️⃣ We see why the Samaritans truly believed they were a continuation of ancient Israel.
*️⃣ We look intimately at Jesus’ conversation with the Woman at the Well.
*️⃣ We continue to answer the question, was Jesus’ travel through Samaria ‘necessary’?

Ladies, save the date for our Fall Women’s Fellowship Night on September 22 at 6pm! This event is located at a private residence. Upon registration, you will be emailed the address.

Community is such an important part of our church. We want you to know your church and be known by your church. This is how the body operates best.

While this event is for women who attend Almond Tree Bible Church, we also understand that fellowship events are a great way to invite someone seeking a church to call home. For this reason, women are welcome to bring a friend. We simply ask that you include them on your RSVP so we can factor your guest into our headcount.

What an adventure our church has been on this summer! ☀️ We held our first service in a backyard in May 2026 with an unexpected 65 people in attendance. We prayerfully sought a temporary space with the summer heat coming in quick, and the Lord provided above and beyond in the location we were seeking — a spot in Indian Land, SC. As we’ve continued to rapidly grow as a church this summer we’ve been seeking a long-term location with more space, and a space that functions well with our focus on family and fellowship.

We’re so excited to announce Almond Tree will be moving into the Annex at the Indian Land Recreation Center on September 20! God is so good and so faithful!

Save the date and join us for worship in our new location on September 20 at 9:30am! And in the meantime, see you Sunday 1.5 miles up the road in our temporary spot that has blessed our church so greatly 🥹☺️

Save the dates for our next several Sunday Family Fellowship lunches, our Women’s Fellowship Night, and our Men’s Fellowship Night. We’re finalizing the details for some of these events and we’ll update the event pages with all the specific information soon.

We’re also working on finalizing some meet-ups for the kids and planning for the holidays (that came up quick!), and we’ll let you know when those events are up.

Fellowship is a priority at Almond Tree. We want you to KNOW your church and be KNOWN by your church. We’re excited for these opportunities for the church body to grow deep roots in relationship.

This Sunday at Almond Tree we’ll continue looking at John 4 with verses 15-30. If you missed last week, you can catch the sermon covering the first 14 verses on the Teachings page of our website or on YouTube.

Immediately following service, we’ll be having our August Fellowship Lunch at a park near our church. Pack a lunch or pick something up on the way. There’s a playground and splash pad for the children to enjoy, and families can get to know their church.

Whether you know the story as “The Samaritan Woman” or “The Woman at the Well,” it’s a favorite for many Christians for a reason. Last Sunday, we started in John 4 looking at the first 14 verses of this passage as there’s a lot to unpack here. A few highlights:

*️⃣ Was it necessary for Jesus to travel to Samaria? Geographically, no. For God’s plan, yes. We explain why looking at the differences between Jesus’ conversation with well-known Nicodemus versus a not-named Samaritan woman.
*️⃣ We look at all the historical and ancestral reasons the Jews had issues with the Samaritans, taking us all the way back to 2 Kings. Samaria wasn’t normal gentile territory.
*️⃣ We clarify that Samaritans did not know and follow the Old Testament in its entirety, but only the Pentateuch, the first five books.
*️⃣ We breakdown what we truly know about this woman apart from common conjectures. We should be careful in constructing personal biographies that the text does not provide.
*️⃣ Why was this interaction by a well? Rebekah, Rachel, Zipporah — each of these brides were found by a well. John has described Jesus as the bridegroom. Coincidence? Let’s see.
*️⃣ She brought people to the well. What did they hear? The Word. Where does faith come from? Hearing the Word of Christ.
*️⃣ We recognize that John was not there, but is retelling this story. This is not a word by word, but a transcript. Jesus was meant to be alone with her, why?
*️⃣ We look at the cultural understanding of “living water.”
*️⃣ We see an open invitation to Jesus.
*️⃣ We see concepts of grace, faith/trust, regeneration, indwelling, preservation, sanctification, and glorification all taught by Jesus in this passage.

Thank you, Jesus, for giving us such rich Scripture to study as we come to know you better, and as you allow your Word to build faith in us ✝️

We are so excited to kick off the fall season with so many opportunities for fellowship at Almond Tree! One Sunday a month, we’ll be having a fellowship lunch immediately following service. Our first fellowship lunch is THIS SUNDAY! 🙌🏼

We also have a Women’s Fellowship Night scheduled for September and we’re working to finalize dates for additional events.

We want you to KNOW your church and be KNOWN by your church. Community is a paramount and is a priority here.
