Association of Saints Church Radio Amateurs (ASCRA)

Association of Saints Church Radio Amateurs (ASCRA) The ASCRA page. We do not proselytize via the amateur bands. One does not have to be a member of the Community of Christ to be a associated with ASCRA.

ASCRA is a non-profit association affiliated with the Community of Christ, with international headquarters in Independence, Missouri USA. If the truth be known, we are just a bunch of hams doing what hams like to do, communicating!

We just received word that longtime ASCRA Member, Director, and Former President Ernest N. Miles, WB2UJL has became a Silent Key on August 10, 2020. Please keep his wife of 66 years, Betty, and all of Ernie’s family in your prayers. Ernie was an esteemed member of ASCRA and was a fixture on the Sunday afternoon nets for over 45 years. He was awarded the Arthur B. Church Memorial Service Award for his decades of service on the Board and as net control. We will miss our friend dearly.

It’s a beautiful day for DX!

Here is our Icom IC-756 Pro III and PS-125 power supply (right) at W0SHQ, donated this week by the estate of Steve Lufcy, K0OU(sk). It will serve as backup to its younger brother, the Icom IC-7300 (left). We are grateful for this generous donation. How did you radio today?

Today’s the last day of World Conference 2019. We would like to thank everyone who came out to the meeting and lunch last Saturday and contacted W0SHQ throughout the week. Special thanks to Mike Thayer, KM0S and Robin Cross, W0FEN who operated W0SHQ during the week and greeted visitors to the station. We are also grateful to the Conference Team, who added us to the official schedule of events every day during Conference.

Don’t forget about our regular Sunday nets on 7.190, 14.287, and 3.813, and 146.73/W0SHQ-R.

The HF station at W0SHQ took a lightning strike in June. The remote base is not available at this time due to extensive damage to the transceiver. Please consider making a donation to the club for purchasing a replacement transceiver.

Echolink on the W0SHQ-R repeater node is back on the air! Please check in during our net tonight at 7:30 Central.

The granddaughter of longtime ASCRA member, Tom Thatcher, W2TFT(SK), Sarah Thatcher, was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of liver cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, a year ago. Her friends have started this GoFundMe page to help her with medical expenses: https://www.gofundme.com/sarahstrength #

Sarah is 31 years old and calls Kansas City her home. Despite her incredibly active and fit lifestyle (swimming, biking, running, volleyball, softball, yoga), last year Sarah was inexplicably diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, PSC, and finally bile duct cancer at the end of summer, which usually af...
