Today I had the privilege of touring the Ennovation Center alongside Independence School Districts Superintendent Dr. Murillo. It was an outstanding opportunity to see firsthand the innovation, collaboration, and intentional work taking place right here in Independence.

What many may not realize is that the Ennovation Center is one of our community’s greatest assets. Since opening its doors, it has helped launch hundreds of businesses, equipped entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed, and contributed to creating jobs and strengthening our local economy. From business coaching to collaborative workspaces and a commercial kitchen for aspiring food entrepreneurs, this facility is transforming ideas into opportunity every single day.

I am especially grateful for the long standing partnership between the Independence School District and the Ennovation Center under the leadership of Danielle DuPree! Partnerships like these connect education, innovation, and economic development in ways that benefit not only our students, but our entire community.

The future of Independence is not something we simply hope for. It is something we build together. Today was a wonderful reminder that some of that work is already happening right here at the Ennovation Center!

Four Things You Should Know About the Ennovation Center..

• Since opening in 2010, the Ennovation Center has helped launch and support more than 600 businesses, empowering entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into successful ventures.

• It strengthens our local economy. By providing business coaching, workspace, and specialized resources, the Center helps create jobs, attract investment, and grow Independence’s economic future!

• It offers unique resources for entrepreneurs. From a 24/7 commercial kitchen to coworking spaces, offices, and innovation labs, the Ennovation Center provides tools that many startups could not otherwise afford.

• It is built on community partnership. The Ennovation Center represents a successful collaboration between the City of Independence, MO, Government, the Independence School District, economic development organizations, and community leaders, all working together to create opportunities for generations to come.

To God Be The Glory!

Last night, my board peers elected me President of the Board of Education for the Independence, Missouri School District.

I don’t take this moment lightly. It is humbling, personal, and an honor I carry with a deep sense of responsibility. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and fully aware of what this role requires.

This moment also carries history. I am the first person of color to serve in this capacity. While that may seem insignificant or irrelevant to some, it is deeply significant to me, to my family, and to our community. I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me, freedom fighters, justice seekers, and truth tellers, and I remain committed to leading with integrity, pursuing excellence, and moving with clear purpose, as I have always strived to do.

I am a Black man, and I’m proud of that. I am also a father and a husband. My life is grounded in faith, service, and a commitment to doing what is right, even when it isn’t easy.

To EVERY young person, especially young people of color, I hope this moment reminds you that you are capable, that you belong in every room, and that your voice matters at every table. What once felt out of reach is now within reach, and I’m honored to be part of closing that gap and to cast my name among those who have dedicated their lives to making a real difference in the lives of others.

The road here hasn’t been easy, and I know there will be challenges ahead. But I’m ready. I’m willing. And I’m committed to continuing to show up with courage, humility, and a heart to serve.

Last but not least, congratulations to Wendy Baird, on her election to Vice President, and Brandy Pruente on her election to Treasurer. - Sarah, and Justin are AWESOME and have already began demonstrating strengths that will only make us stronger, together ❤️

Over the past couple of years my wife and I have worked to bring this dream to fruition. I am pleased to say.. We have secured a building and keys are in our hand!

Our community continues to face real challenges around childcare, and we’re committed to being part of the solution. Our childcare facility, Agape Leadership Academy is coming soon, and we’re truly grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and support as we step into this important work together.
