We honor our fallen veterans each Memorial Day and give recognition to the men and women who have given their lives for our country. Each veteran buried in our cemetery will have their grave decorated with an American flag.

Visit the cemetery over Memorial Weekend and see the improvements from recent years and receive a free umbrella as a gift.

Memorial Day - Monday, May 31, 2021 - honors our fallen heros, men and women who went to war and didn’t come back. Each year we also give tribute to all veterans buried at the cemetery as we place an American Flag on each of their graves. And this weekend we’ve already had hundreds of visitors, with families decorating the graves of their own loved ones, veterans or not. On Saturday we had a special service, and the rest of the weekend will see heavy traffic as people continue to visit the cemetery. Drive safe everyone!!

The new cross has solar lights on it, and it illuminates nicely. We checked it early this morning to make sure the lights were working, and indeed the cross was visible in the dark from Salisbury Road. From inside the cemetery it looked great too!

Cemetery Improvements Update:

We’ve worked all winter and most of the spring to get things finished up, with the goal of a nice event on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. Lots of people have worked hard to bring it to this point. More info on Memorial Day Weekend to come!

As 2020 comes to an end, we are looking to early in 2021 for the completion of the new Committal Shelter at the cemetery. It’s taken longer than expected, but it’s being done “right” and the end result will be both really attractive - and - functional as a place for families to gather to say goodby to loved ones, to celebrate good memories, and to remember. Take a look at the detail of the woodwork, looking up at the ceiling. We are pretty proud of how this is coming together.

More construction photos of the new Committal Shelter as the frame is taking shape! Visitors to the cemetery have all been quite favorably impressed. Everyone is anxious to see the end result as we create a place for families to gather and say goodbye to loved ones. The new cross will go on the very top of the roof and be well-lit so it can been seen from the road.

The new Committal Shelter (with new cross on top) is finally coming together! The project has taken longer than originally thought, but it’s going to offer families a wonderful place to gather and to remember. So we are looking forward to completion. In the meantime, here are some pictures of various stages of the construction so far. If you are in the neighborhood stop by and see how it is looking!

Work is underway at Oak Ridge to improve accessibility to the cremation niches and to make the cemetery more useable. The shelter will come next, hopefully in July, as a place for families to have a committal event or other gathering. It’s a lot of work but a totally worthy project.

This summer we will continue making improvements at the cemetery. In addition to the first phase in our sidewalk plan, we will also build a shelter/ gathering place in the middle of the main section where committal services can be held, families can share together and which adds a degree of functionality as well as upgraded appearance. The exact design of the shelter hasn’t been completely finalized but here is the artist’s conceptualization! We DO know it will still include a cross. As things develop over the next few years, our master plan will include more sidewalks and as many cremation niches as needed.

If you visited the cemetery over Memorial Day weekend you noticed the brand new roads. What an improvement! We also put in new cremation niches (sometimes referred to as columbariums) for our clients selecting cremation. This month we will put in two sidewalks to make the features more accessible and easy to visit. Keep checking back as we work through our plan to upgrade and enhance the cemetery. Additional cremation niches will follow, along with other features like a shelter/gathering place for families to meditate or hold a small ceremony.
