How will you become more like Jesus Christ today?
2 Nephi 31:20

"I know that as we take that one step closer to Jesus Christ everyday that we can become like Him and live with our Father in Heaven!"

Fun fact, my grandfather on my mother's side's last name is Windsor, the Windsor family was royal and lived in a palace many generations ago in another country. Until another family kicked them out of their home and assumed the Windsor name. So my Grandfather (and by extension me) is royal blood, however God had better plans for us, and we moved to the united states. So my grandfather sent an email telling the duke of that place (I can't remember where that was I'll have to ask him) of the situation and who truly belonged to the throne, and simply gave it away so that he could continue to live his happy life with his family. My grandfather instead is a very successful civil engineer who makes a fortune.

This is our friend Kristen! She has been diligently working to research her family history for
years and is overjoyed to share her hard work!
She loves connecting with her ancestors and she treasures their memories by keeping their
information that she has collected in these big scrapbooks. She has compiled family names,
family photos, and memorabilia into her father’s side and her mother’s side.
She has also recorded family memories and stories!
Her favorite story is of her Uncle John in the 1940’s. He was stationed at Camp Shelby
Mississippi where he was the mess hall cook. His sister Lena wrote a letter to John asking for a
good cake recipe for her family. Sometime later, a letter from John arrived saying, “Here is your
recipe”. Lena was shocked when she read the recipe! It called for: 200 cups of flour, 150 eggs,
20 pounds butter, 60 cups sugar, ect.
John finished his letter saying, “You will need to break it down to fit your family, figure it out.”
… the cake never got made.
Family stories are one of her favorite parts of doing Genealogy. Another part of Genealogy that
she has said she really loves is the Temple! Kristen is super excited about discovering more
about her ancestors so that she can give them the opportunity to accept Baptism in the Temple!
She thinks it is so beautiful that we give people on the other side a chance to come unto Christ!
Kristen can’t wait to do more of her family history, and find more fun stories about her ancestors!

How has family history changed my life? This picture is of my great grandfather Robert Brandt. He served in the army many years ago and I grew up knowing he had become a pilot in the military. Though I knew him for 16 years I have come to know him more as I've learned about his life and the example he has set for me. I'm so grateful for family history and all the amazing things we learn about our relatives!

My 4th great-grandfather was named Peter Isaacson, and he was born in Denmark in 1828. His story is one of my favorites to tell.

When Peter was 26 years old, he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A short time later he went to visit his mother, only for his angry step-father to kick him out of the house because of his choice of religion.

Peter left, sure that he would never see his mother again. Indeed, he didn't.

Walking home, he encountered a stranger who walked with him for a few miles. They discussed Peter's upcoming journey to America and his encounter with his step-father. Turning to him, the stranger said some words that I'm sure Peter carried with him for the rest of his life:

'Peter, I want to tell you that you are doing the right thing by going to America. You will never regret it. You will be greatly blessed for the things you are doing; and your children and your children's children. Remember to always be as you have been in your life and your blessings will be great.'

When Peter looked up, the man had disappeared. He never saw him again, but remained convinced that the man had been a heavenly messenger.

Peter Isaacson went to America, and remained faithful to God and to his convictions for the remainder of his life. Today, his life and his choices still affect me and countless other descendents for the better, just as the messenger said.

He is a testimony to me of faith and courage that I can look to in hard times. Peter Isaacson is one of many reasons I love family history! These stories inspire and strengthen me against the trials of life. If they could get through it, I can too.

This picture is of two journals. On the left is a print-out of my grandpa's journal from when he was my age. I love to read his journal. It is so comforting to see the struggles he had in his life and how he overcomes them. It helps me realize that even as great of a guy as he was, he went through his hard times, as well.

On the right is my journal. I am trying my hardest to give to my descendants the gift my grandpa gave to me. I write about my struggles, and I share my testimony of how Jesus Christ helps me.

Even if you don't know any of your ancestors' stories, you can record your own stories to bless future generations. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but as you make an effort to keep a journal you become a part of your family's history.

"For a tree to live and grow, it needs both roots and branches. We likewise need to be connected to our roots—our parents, grandparents, and other ancestors—as well as to our branches—our children, grandchildren, and other descendants." -Quentin L Cook

There are two parts to family history. We can search and learn about our ancestors to deepen our roots. As we learn more about our family who have come before us, we figure out our own stories, as well.

We can also record our own stories for the benefit of our branches. As we take pictures, journal, and pave the way for those who will come after us, we continue our family's story.

How will you grow your tree?
