Please join us for worship Sundays at 10:30 a.m. followed by food and fellowship afterwards with your friends and neighbors in our social hall. In 2022 we celebrated our 150th Anniversary of serving Imlay City and the World! Our roots go back to 1871 when an interdenominational church society was formed in Imlay City. A handful of citizens realized the need for a place of worship in their growing city. On September 3, 1872, a decision was made for Imlay City to have one church. In a vote a majority opted to create a Congregational Church. Dedicated on February 3, 1876, our building’s architecture is that of a traditional New England style Congregational Church. Congregational Churches were organized after the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock (1620) and the Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (1629) acknowledged their essential unity in what became known as the Cambridge Platform. First Congregational Church became part of the United Church of Christ (UCC) which formed in 1957 with the union of two Protestant denominations: The Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Congregational Christian Churches. We believe in God, in Jesus as our Savior, and in the Holy Spirit as our guide; that everyone is made in God’s image and that God has a purpose and reason for each of us; that we are individually accountable before God and responsible for our personal spiritual growth; that faith gives meaning to life and through a personal relationship with God our lives will experience change. We also believe in prayer, everlasting life, the Bible, and that we are called in mission to serve and share God’s love. Here is a doxology of our beliefs in United Church of Christ:
We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit, God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God, and to your deeds we testify:
You call the worlds into being, create persons in your own image ,and set before each one the ways of life and death. You seek in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. You judge people and nations by your righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself. You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races. You call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be your servants in the service of others, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil,to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. You promise to all who trust you forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, your presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in your realm which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto you. Amen.
