A Depth of Riches

Every day of our lives, we are faced with choices to make. Choices of where to go and what to do. Some of these choices may seem insignificant in the moment, but it is vital to our walk with God that we make all these choices with the will of God in mind.

Romans 11:33 says, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” On the flip side, James refers to the wisdom of man and says that it does not come from above, but it is earthly, sensual, and devilish.(James 3:15) Even Jesus Himself sought the will of the Father: “I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” (John 5:30)

But how can we access this depth of riches that is the wisdom of the Father? By regularly spending time with Him in prayer and in His Word. Romans 12:2 says that as we conform to Him as opposed to the world, we will be transformed by the renewal of our mind and will be able to test and discern that which is the will of God.

This last Sunday's "Note from the pastor..."
Say something nice…

“…Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” Ephesians 4:29 (NLT)

Growing up, my mom always told us, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I believe that principle is true for all of us today as it was as kids. Let’s take it a step farther and add, “Work harder at saying something nice.” It is difficult to see the best in people when judging and condemning them is much easier, and more natural.

However, I believe we could change our world by sharing the love of Christ in how we speak to people in our everyday life. This week, pick one day where you try to say something encouraging to every person you come in contact with that day.

The person at the drive through, the bank, the gas station, wherever you find yourself. Watch, not just how they respond, but how you feel at the end of the day.

Yesterday's "Note from the pastor..."
What a day that will be…

“We know that when He appears, we will be like Him because we will see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2 HCSB)

The mere thought of John’s message is quite literally overwhelming! One day we will see Christ in His fullness and as followers of Christ we will be “like him.” Now, this does not mean we will be “gods” because we were/ are created beings, but it means we will have a glorified body and mind. We will be at complete peace and void of any sin whatsoever. As the old hymn says, “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see.”

I cannot imagine what that will be like, it is beyond my understanding, but an amazing reality for the church is that the unity with Christ and the Father is made possible today. Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would be “one with the Father as Jesus is one with the Father”.

We can walk in unity by the Holy Spirit practicing (if you will) for that glorious day when we will be completely transformed!

Yesterday's "Note from the pastor..."
“Thanks Mom”

“I thank my God every time I remember you.” (Philippians 1:3)

Today we celebrate our mom’s! We take time to remember and thank God for the many hugs, kissed “boo-boo’s”, positive words and so much more. The apostle Paul wrote those words to the church at Philippi when he remembered how much they meant to him. I believe we can and should have the same response when we think of our mom’s.

Spend today sharing stories and laughs with family and friends being thankful for the lasting impact that your mom had on you. Also, don’t let you appreciate stop tomorrow, let it continue to be evident how thankful you are for her.

To the mom’s reading this, enjoy every moment of today and know that you are appreciated!
