Yesterday's Note from the pastor...
When the burdens are great…

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee…” (Psalm 55:22)

What burdens you? What are the weights that you are trying to carry through your day that seem to be weighing you down? We all have them, because that’s real life. However, just because you have weights placed on you in this world, doesn’t mean you carry those alone.

David tells us in Psalms 55 that when we cast our burdens on God, he will not reject us, but sustain us. That word “sustain” means to “support or endure”. One author said it well when they said, “God invites us to burden him, with what burdens us.” I also love how the Message paraphrase starts vs. 22, “Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders; he’ll carry your load.” Stop carrying those weights alone, give them to the Lord and he will strengthen you!

Tonight at 6 pm! With the rain we will meet in the fellowship hall.

Pastor Greg Blount

Praise God in Everything!

It can be easy to praise God when our lives are going well. But when we are in the middle of difficult times, that’s when it can be difficult to praise God.

When David wrote Psalm 63, he was in the wilderness on the run from his son Absalom who was revolting against him. As difficult as our lives can be sometimes, it’s hard to imagine a more difficult situation than the one David was in. But even amid this, David praises God for His power and lovingkindness. (v.1-2) In fact, David’s praise goes to the point of him saying that he thirsts for God like he thirsts for water in a dry and weary land. (v. 1)

David recognized that He needed God but also that God deserves to be praised regardless of the situation he finds himself in. We do not praise God because our life is in a good place or because we are in a good mood; we praise Him because He is worthy of praise and we need Him every day.

Yesterday's "Note from the pastor..."
Wise in God…

“Be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the Lord and depart from evil.” (Proverbs 3:7)

In this passage in Proverbs we find one of the more popular verses in the book, verses that are quoted often or inscribed on pillows, magnets or written in graduation cards. That is the Proverbs 3:5-6 and it is a powerful truth to not lean on what we understand but acknowledge God in all things. Acknowledge he is God, he is good and he is in control for his glory.

However, I wanted to focus on the next verse which doesn’t get as much attention, but I believe is the result of verses 5-6. When I am acknowledging who God is as God in all areas of my life, I will see that in myself I am not wise. I will fear the Lord and I will depart from evil. Remember wisdom is not merely head knowledge but the application of knowledge and it will change our lives.

Have you taken time to acknowledge who God is in your life? Take a moment and dwell on him and his glory!
