This is most apparent when our words and actions show Jesus to people.Check out our latest at www.illiopoliscc.org We are a church born of the frontier movement in the United States that became known as the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ). We don't all believe the same thing, but we acknowledge that Jesus is the son of God and our Savior.

This year we are doing something a little different at ICC (and NCC). Have you wanted to read and engage with your Bible and don't know how to? Have you tried reading and start out with good intentions, but struggle with it?
Yeah, you're not alone. This year we are breaking it down and giving you what you need to understand, read, and engage thoughtfully with the Bible. This year we have 8 different sermon series (which you can read about in the comments) that cover how the Bible came to be, the significant stories that shape the scriptures and thus our own faith, and what the Bible says about life now, after death, and how God will redeem all life. Each Sunday has handouts that you can put together in a binder and have a rich resource that will serve you for life.
Our first series, which began January 11th and continues through February 15th, feels a lot like a Bible study class where we break down the different genres of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament and trace how these collections of writings came to be the bound book we carry in our hands today.
We'd love for you to have these tools and resources as well. There are 2 ways for you to participate. First - come and join us! Be in the room, hear and ask questions, receive the handouts. If this isn't for you, there's a link in the comments where you can access all of the handouts and the audio recording and transcript of each week's sermon.
Don't depend on the media or anyone else to tell you who God is and what God wants. Get the tools you need to engage with these Scriptures yourself. You may be surprised by what you find!

This Advent series takes seriously the angels’ message and trusts that Christ’s birth truly is good news of great joy for all people. The resources look closely at the fear and terror looming in the background during the time of King Herod and invite us to consider the fears we hold now. Fear can divide and paralyze us and even be used as a tool for oppression. But what if we formed a different relationship with fear? Can we acknowledge fear without letting it rule us? Might we catalyze our fears into love and action? What if naming our fears helps us see more clearly how God is breaking in and where God is at work?

As you journey through this Advent and Christmas season, may your hope become gritty and resilient. May you remember: hope that trembles is still hope. This season, let us insist on hope and trust that good news is greater than fear.

This series explores what it means to be faithful stewards of all God has entrusted to us - our traditions, creation, resources, and souls. Each week invites us to recognize that everything we have and all that we are belong to God, calling us to live with gratitude, generosity, and purpose. Through scripture, worship, and reflection, we’ll celebrate the saints who came before us, care for the world around us, give joyfully, and nurture thankful hearts. Together, we’ll rediscover stewardship not as obligation, but as a joyful way of life.

Rooted is a four-week series exploring the heart of what it means to follow Jesus with intention and openness. Each week, we’ll reflect on a different aspect of Christian life: prayer, scripture, remembering our identity through baptism and communion, and stepping out as disciples who love and serve. These practices are invitations to receive, to grow, and to live out faith with wonder and grace. Together, we’ll rediscover how the simplest actions can become holy ground.

Our August Sermon Series is Walking With Jesus. Through the stories of the psalmists, the teachings of Jesus, and the reflections of early believers, we discover that God's invitation is not about status or perfection, but about faith lived honestly and fully.
From welcoming the vulnerable like children, to releasing what holds us back, to redefining greatness through service, and finally to asking boldly for restoration, we are reminded that true faith is not abstract. It is embodied. It is persistent. And it is always relational. These practices are ways of being that root us in God’s grace and open us to transformation.
