CTL Baptist Church Our desire is to see people saved, not become religious, done by faith alone, in Christ alone. Nothing fancy, no gimmicks. Just the Word of God.

On this day set aside to remind us to give thanks, let's make sure that our spirit of thanksgiving isn't only for today. Let's have a never-ending attitude of gratitude.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice evermore.17 Pray without ceasing.18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,* (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. - John 1:14

Today, we celebrate the Word being made flesh. The birth of Jesus Christ is the fruition of biblical prophecy, the answer to prayers, and the source of hope for all to come. The greatest gift ever given did not come wrapped in shiny paper or placed under a tree, he came in quiet humility ready to radically change the world and restore relationship with God. His glory continues to shine and he is the reason the angels sing "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!"

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. - Matthew 2:10

The birth of Christ is cause for celebration! Imagine being held captive and hearing that someone is on their way to saving you. At moment of their arrival, whatever hope you had would radically grow. You would be excited with arrival of who you had been waiting on to rescue and restore you.
For years, prophecy fortold of a great conquerer who would come and rescue us from our seperation from God, and promise is fulfilled in through Christ. In his birth, we see the hope of the world come to fruition. It truly is cause for "Joy to the World".

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. - Isaiah 40:3

It is important to prepare our hearts to recieve the gift provided by the birth and death of Jesus Christ. As we continue in this season of the celebration of the birth of Jesus, set aside a small amount of time each day to invite the Holy Spirit into your heart and focus on meaning and gift of Jesus Christ.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. - Isaiah 9:6-7

As we find ourselves in the Advent season, it can be easy to focus on the all of the trappings of the holiday season instead of the birth of Christ. Nothing that anyone can place under a Christmas tree can replace or compete with the gift we were given in Jesus Christ.

Isaiah tell us that there are angels in God's presence who cry out day and night, "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!"
It is God's Holiness that gives meaning to His Love, Justice, Morality, and even His Judgments.

As we take time and reflect on God's holiness today, we have the chance to respond to who he is, instead of just what he does for you? His Holiness describes His love for you and takes on a whole new meaning.

By faith the pr******te Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. - Hebrews 11:31

Despite a past that many would think would disqualify her, Rahab was spared by God because of her faith. We have that same freedom offered in Christ. God's promise for your life is not contingent on your perfection. You only need to be obedient and faithful.

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

We often find it easier to fall to our knees and ask things of God when times are hard. When we are facing a crisis and we don't see another way, we turn to Christ. But God is not just here for the bad times. He desires a relationship with you. He wants to hear from you in the good and the bad times. In between trials, take time to converse with God and give him thanks.

It's impossible to hear from God if your bible stays closed. Keep the word open to hear a word from God.

Sometimes we are faced with challenges that seem ready to overwhelm us. In the face of those circumstances, it can be easy to panic or try to run in the opposite direction.
But scripture advocates for a different line of action. We are encouraged to be strong and courageous. Even when we feel weak and afraid, we know that our strength comes from the Lord who promises to be with us as we face these trials. Be encouraged!
