Text of Pastor Susan's Congregational Prayer from Sunday, November 23:
"Lord of the Harvest, we your children come to you this morning in thanks for who you are.
You have poured out upon us blessings like abundant rain.
Our barns are full of grain; and our vineyards overflow with the wine of your goodness.
We rest in your providence, your generosity, your loving kindness.
Time and time again, you have shown us that you are present in our midst.
Whether we have had little or much, whether we have suffered or prospered, You have been our faithful and sustaining God.
When Monocacy Valley was a young church plant, you were there.
When we lost our founding pastor to Alzheimer’s, you were there.
When our numbers shrank from 200 to 75, you were there.
When we prayerfully began a preschool in the midst of COVID, you were there.
When we were in need of leaders, you provided them.
And today, as your faithful followers, we come before you in gratitude that you are with us still.
Since You have been faithful in times past, we can ask in confidence that You minister also to our current needs….
We pray that You will continue to guide us as we move into the future, discerning Your will—and Your will only—for this church.
We pray that You continue to protect us from all evil and harm, especially our children and our most vulnerable.
We pray that You intervene to bring a person of your choosing to be our Senior Pastor.
We pray that You will help us be good stewards of our church’s money until such time as we have a larger and more consistent flow of income.
We pray that our property—when sold—will house business establishments that honor You.
We, Your children, come to You this morning rejoicing in You, O Lord. You have dealt wonderfully with us. You have led us by your hand. You have redeemed us. You have provided us with committed leaders and faithful members, and You have walked ahead of us as we have tried our best to follow.
And now, we ask that, as You have led us, you will pour out Your spirit on us so that we are able to accomplish Your purposes for a new heaven and a new earth. And for the next generation—we ask that You invade the hearts of our sons and daughters, our children and grandchildren. Give them courage to dream Your dreams; Give them eyes to see Your visions.
Mold and shape us all by those dreams and visions to be faithful and passionate witnesses of Your love, grace, and truth in the days, months and years ahead.
And so, Lord of all seasons, we lift our grateful harvest prayer to You today. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen."
