Some wonder what it means to be a seer. Here is a great article. We hope you felt the Spirit testify that Pres. Nelson is who the Lord has chosen to lead His Church.
We all felt the Lord’s Spirit rest upon President Russell M Nelson in general conference. One title we willingly attribute to President Nelson is that of a seer. Let me give you an example from almost 30 years ago. The picture below depicts one of the first experiences I had with President Nelson as he served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and I served as the mission president of the France Bordeaux Mission.
My wife, Kathy, and I had traveled to a mission presidents’ seminar held in Budapest, Hungary. With President Nelson and a few other mission presidents, wives, and others, we walked up Mount Gellert, which overlooks the Danube River and the city of Budapest. It was October 1989. President Nelson showed us where, just a few years earlier, he had dedicated the country of Hungary. We marveled at the progress the Church had made in the years since.
As we looked out over the city, change was in the air and the red stars of the Communist party were being taken down from the government buildings below. As we reflected on his experience with the government ministers and how he had dedicated the country on an Easter Sunday, he said to us, “The changes we have seen in Eastern Europe have been magnificent. But as great as they are, those events of the past will be dwarfed by the events of the near future.”
Kathy and I did not dwell on this statement until November 9, 1989, when, while driving in southern France, we heard the news that the Berlin Wall had fallen. That caused a domino effect across Eastern Europe like could never have been anticipated. For us, it was a small but significant confirmation of the sacred gifts given to Elder Russell M. Nelson. He is now the Lord’s prophet upon the earth.
As I said in my conference talk, a prophet does not stand between you and the Savior. Rather, he stands beside you and points the way to the Savior. A prophet’s greatest gift to us is his sure witness, his certain knowledge that Jesus is the Christ. Like Peter of old, our prophet declares: “[He is] the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Anchoring our souls to the Lord Jesus Christ requires listening to those He sends. Following the prophet in a world of commotion is like being wrapped in a soothing, warm blanket on a freezing cold day.
