Bible Study - Mary McKee-Ray

Bible Study - Mary McKee-Ray The Bible is more than a good book. It lies at the heart of Christ.

Together, we study to learn what it says first hand, for personal edification, because it is God's Word to us, and to know God better.

What Iโ€™m Thinking About Tosay (long)

I wrote this years ago and thought that (considering the fact that Xmas is drepressing for some) that I would repost.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-
Iโ€™ve been thinking about Bluebirds this morning. This train of thought was caused by my coloring page in a bible study (Discovering Joy in Philippians) I'm doing with a group of online ladies. who've become good friends.
The study has color pages of scriptures, the current page contains the verse, "for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." [Philippians 1:21]

The picture has a wooden cross, and sitting right at the top is a bird. Prompted by the studies title, I immediately thought the
'Bluebird of Happiness'. Of course, it must be blue.

I decided to see if bluebirds were in the Bible. The words are not, but several versions speak of the Thrush, which a bluebird is.

Then I thought this might make a really good devotional. You know-something really profound so that all of you readers could say, "Amen", or "really needed that'. You know, all those things that make one feel good and very wise. I know those thoughts could be categorized as 'prideful", but I'm human as, I suspect, are you, since you're reading this. ๐Ÿ™‚

So with that thought in mind, I searched for bluebird quotes.
You know, something to stimulate my thoughts along the lines of the profound. (I shamefully confess.)

I saw several very good ones; some beautiful. Then I saw one that made me laugh out loud.
"The Bluebird of Happiness long absent from his life, Ned is visited by the Chicken of Depression."

I began to think, "I understand the reason he picked the bluebird, but why the chicken?

I've thought a lot about depression over the past (O These Many) years, and, in fact it was an often visitor, albeit not a welcome one.

I think he selected a chicken just to be funny, which it is. But on further thinking on my own past acquaintance that old, cowardly chicken, I realized that it takes courage to find Joy and our own personal bluebirds when times are hard. Or even when they are not and we don't even know why we walk around feeling down and life is the pitts.

It's a hard thing to decide to change your thought lifeโ€”to find joy. But find it you must. The key word is Find. Or Seek. You have to go after it. And constantly be on guard or that old Chicken of Depression will be scratching around in the backyard of your mind and the first thing you know you'll be having depression for dinner. Or maybe it will be having you.

The constitution says, "Pursuit of Happiness". It is right. It must be pursued or you'll not have it.
