Wednesday Musings from the Pastor’s Desk
Memorial Day has come and gone, but the meaning behind it lingers long after the flags are folded, the cookouts are cleaned up, and the long weekend ends. On Monday I had the honor to speak at the Memorial Day Service at the Hydro Masonic Cemetery. It was a blessing to speak but even more so to meet many people on this special day.
This week I’ve found myself reflecting on remembrance on the importance of pausing long enough to honor those who gave their lives in service to our country and the families who continue to carry both pride and grief.
Scripture often calls God’s people to remember. We remember because gratitude shapes our hearts. We remember because sacrifice matters. We remember because freedom is never free.
As Christians, Memorial Day also reminds us of the greatest sacrifice ever made. Jesus told His disciples, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” In a world that often celebrates self-promotion and personal gain, sacrifice still speaks loudly. It points us toward courage, service, and love.
Living in a small community, we understand the value of people showing up for one another. We wave at neighbors, support our schools, pray for one another in hard times, and gather together in moments of celebration and sorrow. That kind of community spirit doesn’t happen by accident, it is built by generations who believed in serving something greater than themselves.
So, this week, may we continue to live thankfully. May we honor the memory of those who served not only with words, but by being people of kindness, faith, humility, and hope. And may we never forget that God continues to call ordinary people to make an extraordinary difference in the lives around them.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Adam
