As we watch the predicted snow totals for this weekend continue to rise, I want to clarify the details of the State of Emergency and the Emergency Order Restricting Travel to ensure everyone’s safety.
I know there has been some confusion about who is allowed on the roads. This order is in place for a very important reason, to protect our residents, to give our highway crews the space they need to clear 12–24 inches of snow, and to keep our essential workers safe.
Effective: Sunday (Jan 25) at 5 a.m. through Monday (Jan 26) at 5 p.m.
During this time, travel on Dutchess County roadways is restricted ONLY to emergency vehicles and essential workers. If you are not in one of the following categories, please stay home and stay off the roads:
• Emergency & Public Safety: Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Public Safety personnel.
• Medical: Health facility and medical personnel.
• Infrastructure: Utility, maintenance, and public works crews.
• Snow Removal: Personnel involved in sanding, salting, and clearing operations.
• Facility Operations: Individuals deemed necessary for plant operations by their employers.
• Government: Public and government personnel involved in emergency operations.
• Media: News media personnel reporting on the storm.
By staying home, you are helping our first responders get to emergencies faster and allowing our plow drivers to clear the roads more effectively. Putting yourself at risk on the road puts our emergency workers at risk, too.
Please look out for your neighbors, keep your pets inside, and stay warm. We are all in this together!
