Our goal isn't to fight people. It's to win people to Jesus.
Sometimes we forget who the real enemy is.
The people around us aren't the enemy. They're people who have been deceived, trapped in sin, and blinded by the lies of the enemy.
We're not called to win arguments, tear people down, or prove how right we are.
We're called to share the truth of Jesus Christ so that people can experience the same freedom we've found in Him.
Stop fighting the people you're called to reach.

You can win the argument and still lose the opportunity to share Jesus.
Apologetics is important. Defending our faith matters. But somewhere along the way, we can become more concerned with proving someone wrong than pointing them to Jesus.
The goal isn't to embarrass unbelievers, tear them down, or make them feel foolish.
The goal is for their eyes to be opened to the truth of the gospel.
We're not trying to win arguments. We're trying to reach people.

What happens when you step out in obedience to God, but things don't go the way you expected?

In Acts 13:4–12, Paul and Barnabas begin their first missionary journey after being sent out by the Holy Spirit. But almost immediately, they encounter opposition.
They're doing exactly what God called them to do, yet the journey isn't without challenges. And on the other side of their obedience, something incredible happens: a Roman governor hears the gospel and believes in Jesus.

This week at Fervent Church, we're continuing our verse-by-verse study through the book of Acts with a message titled "The Other Side of Obedience."
Together, we'll see that following God's calling doesn't mean life will always be easy, but we can trust Him even when we don't know what's ahead.

You don't always know what's on the other side of your obedience, but you can trust the One who's calling you.

What is ministry?

We can easily think ministry is what happens behind a pulpit, on a stage, or when someone has a title.

But Acts 13 gives us a different picture.

Before Paul and Barnabas were sent out on mission, they were simply gathered with the church—worshiping, praying, fasting, and ministering to the Lord.

Before they ministered FOR the Lord, they ministered TO the Lord.

Ministry is service. Service to God. Service to people. Service done under the authority of Jesus.

You don't need a microphone, a title, or a platform to have a ministry.

You can minister right where you are.

Ministry comes before mission. Don't get it backwards.

Before you minister to people, minister unto the Lord.
Before you lead someone, pray for someone, serve someone, or try to make a difference in someone’s life, remember where ministry begins.
Our primary ministry—every single one of us—is unto the Lord first and foremost.
Everything else flows from that.

What does it actually mean to be a minister?

We often think of ministry as a position, a title, a platform, or something reserved for pastors and church leaders. But in Acts 13:1–3, we see something very different.

Before Paul and Barnabas were sent on their mission, they were already ministering to the Lord—worshiping, fasting, praying, and seeking God together. And while they were serving, the Holy Spirit spoke.

In this message, “What Is Ministry?”, we’ll look at the biblical meaning of ministry, why every Christian is called to serve, what it means to minister to the Lord, and how God’s mission often flows out of faithful service.

Before you have a mission, you have a ministry—and it begins with serving the Lord.

Sometimes faithfulness looks like boring obedience.
Pray. Read your Bible. Serve. Give. Love your spouse. Disciple your kids. Then wake up tomorrow and do it again.
You may not see the breakthrough yet. Nothing may feel big or dramatic. But that doesn’t mean God isn’t working.
Keep going. Keep being faithful. Trust that God has a plan and purpose—even in the ordinary.
