DISASTER RELIEF UPDATE - HURRICANE IDA

I got the below message from Cecil Dale our DOM. I am floating the idea of deploying a chainsaw team after the initial team from Lenexa returns to create a larger window for people to serve in.
Please contact me if you have interest in joining a mid-September team. More info to follow.

TEAMS FROM KNCSB DEPLOYING

Crosspoint Hutch,
We have a service opportunity next Monday for two hours. One of our seasoned citizens (Pam Murphy) is moving to assisted living and needs her 1 bedroom apartment contents moved to storage for the time being. We could use a few pickups to move the stuff and some extra hands to make the work lighter. If you can help please meet us at 126 E 2nd / 5:00pm / Monday 8-30-21

You can pm me with questions.

DISASTER RELIEF ALERT

On Saturday, July 10th, in the early morning hours, severe thunderstorms caused significant damage across Nebraska and Iowa, and the Omaha area in particular. 78 mph winds tore up trees, roofs, and destroyed many grain bins. At one point, this storm knocked out the Omaha Sewer Treatment Plant. The storm also caused around 200,000 customers to lose all electrical power. The last I heard was that there were 480 jobs still open.

Chuck Neece, coordinator for KNCSB Disaster Relief issued the following DISASTER RELIEF ALERT today:

Please put out an alert to DOM’s and churches with chainsaw teams.

Due to last weeks tornado and winds there are 480 open jobs for tree and brush removal.

Frank is setting up a command center. As soon as location is set and jobs confirmed in hand, we will need chainsaw teams.

Alert teams to standby, expect some work this weekend, through next week.

CBA's Disaster Relief ChainSaw Recovery Unit has been placed on STANDBY ALERT status.
STANDBY means it is possible that our Chainsaw Unit will be asked to deploy to the Omaha area, perhaps this weekend, and possibly stay for a week. We will await a GO/NO GO message from KNCSB Disaster Relief. All who are willing and able to deploy with the CBA ChainSaw Unit this weekend, please contact the DOM with your availability. I can be reached best via email at: [email protected].

The Association has scheduled a Disaster Relief Training Event a week from this Saturday (July 31st).
It will start at 9:00 a.m. for badge pictures, and the actual training will begin at 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. depending on how many show up for training. The DR Training event will be held at First Southern Baptist Church in Great Bend. Training to be conducted will be:
Introducing Southern Baptists to Disaster Relief (DR Basic Training)
Feeding Unit
ChainSaw Recovery Unit
Shower/Laundry Unit
Please check your badges to see if they have expired. I know mine has, and we will get expired badges updated at this training event.

IF the Disaster Relief Response to the Omaha area requires us to cancel/postpone our DR Training Event in Great Bend, I'll let you know via email as soon as possible.

Keep the SON in your eyes,
Cecil
