Q&A With Dr. Mike West
1) what is your go-to comfort food or favorite meal?
2) who has influenced your faith the most, and how?
3) how did you meet Lisa?
4) what's brought you the most joy in serving at Pursuit?
5) is a hotdog a sandwich?
1) My go to comfort food is usually Rosa’s Mexican Food or any place I can get a good hot dog
2) The great influences on my faith are Dietrich Bonhoeffer and William Wilberforce because they stood firm in their faith in the midst of terrible evil and ultimately defeated it. Closer to home my wife because she lives out her faith each day and encourages me to be a better Christian man. Professor Kevin Lewis because for his mentorship and absolute requirement that we know God as He is and his insistence that we not speak nonsense about God. He is a warrior for the orthodox Christian faith and taught me to be the same. Dr Richard Land for his mentorship and guidance through the doctoral process and his seeing more in me than I see in myself. He taught me what it means to be a Christian while engaging in the public square. Professor Lewis and Dr. Land are examples of what a Christian man should be.
3) I met Lisa on a blind date through a mutual friend in 1996. Our first date was in Austin at Stubbs barbecue. We have been together since.
4) What brings me the most joy serving at Pursuit is watching the light go on as people are navigating Christianity. Maybe they are skeptical or maybe just a Christian who is searching, but I love to see them realize that Christianity is true. There is good evidence for it, and if so, that means I have to do something with Jesus. When that happens, it is life changing for the people who are searching and for the people around them. I love to see people come to the true realization about Christianity and accept Christ.
5) Most assuredly, a hot dog is NOT a sandwich.
