Last Thursday night, Laney Hawes told us something that stayed with us.
For years, she and a small group of others were sounding the alarm about an organized effort to ban books from schools and libraries β city by city. And for years, almost no one believed them. They were ridiculed, shamed, and dismissed.
They kept going anyway.
That kind of courage β to tell the truth when no one is listening, to resist pressure, to persist β is exactly what this conversation is about. And it's exactly the kind of community we want to be.
Grateful to Laney Hawes, Chris Tackett, and Randy Campbell for a night we won't forget.
