Here’s this week’s Missionary Highlight!
Payton has been serving in the Chalco Mexico City mission for 17 months. He has served in 9 different areas and has served with 9 different companions, five of those are from Mexico and 4 from the states. He recently served for 18 weeks in the mission offices as an executive secretary and worked with missionaries in a wide variety of areas including travel, medical, visas and technology. He is thriving and has met so many wonderful people. It has been such a joy to watch his light grow as he presses forward and brings the light of Christ to the Lords children in Mexico City.

Elder Shumway, serving in the South Africa Durban Mission, is this week’s Missionary Highlight. Here is a message, about him, from his parents.

Caleb has been serving in the Durban, South Africa Mission for 17 months, and and has served in 4 areas. South Africa is called the rainbow nation because of its diversity, and he has experienced that diversity. He has served in areas among the very wealthy where he couldn’t find people willing to listen to the gospel, to areas where he could have as many as 22 new people attend church in a week. He is being transferred to Eswatini (Swaziland), where they are working to form the first stake in that country. The members are very involved in missionary work and assist the missionaries in teaching about 40 lessons a month. Caleb is very excited about the opportunity to serve in this area. We asked what he has learned, and he said, “Don’t ever write anyone off because people change”

Sister Jenna Thomas is serving as a teaching missionary in the Columbus, Ohio Mission. She loves the people and has had great experiences teaching the gospel and training other sister missionaries. One highlight for her was attending a zone conference in the historic Kirkland Temple. She just reached her halfway point and looks forward to her continued service in the great state of Ohio!

Sister Seely will have been serving her mission for 1 year here in a couple of weeks. She has served most of the time in small farming communities. She got quite used to chickens and other animals roaming the homes where they are teaching. She is now serving in Lexington & has loved being in the city. I asked her what her favorite thing about serving a mission has been and she said, “My favorite thing about serving a mission has been to see & feel of the love that our Heavenly Father has for all of His children. And then to be able to teach people of His love for them & to look for His hand in their lives.”

Sister Seely has officially been out for a year. So far, she has been able to serve in 5 different areas. She loves the people of Texas & the diversity of the city. She’s been able to teach many people that come from all different parts of the world & many different backgrounds. She’s not quite so in love with humid heat. I asked her what is one thing she’s learned on her mission & she said “I have learned that God loves all of His children so much and he is in every little detail. I love the people! Every single one of them from the random people we run into on the street to the people we teach, members, companions & other missionaries.”

Here’s a short summary of this weeks Highlighted missionary, Emilee Vick, serving in the Mongolia Ulaanbaatar Mission.

“Emilee is thriving and loving Mongolia. They are such a humble and loving people. They love to hug you, giving you anything they have (which isn’t much) and are absorbing learning who Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father are. Her mission is a mission where they go and Teach English to all age groups. They only do that a few hours / days a week and the rest of their time is with the people. They aren’t (as non Mongolians) allowed to prosecute yet the Lord finds so many ways to prepare them and bring them people to teach and ward members to help. She has said many times that she is grateful for the chances to serve and how she is growing herself so much. It is fun to talk to her once a week and to hear all the best experiences and tender mercies she receives on a regular basis. She loves her Savior and Heavenly Father and loves being that love and light to those who is privileged to serve.”

Elder Ryan Stewart, serving in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania mission, is this Sundays missionary highlight. Here’s a short message from his parents.

Ryan is doing great as he wraps up his last transfer of his mission in the Philadelphia, PA mission. He is training 2 new missionaries and continuing the work in his area. Ryan has grown so much and strengthened his testimony in so many ways. We’ve seen so much maturing and not just spiritually but also with learning principles and life skills that will be a benefit to him the rest of his life. Ryan has built some great relationships with his companions, some of which he hopes last a lifetime. He has been such a great example to us and those he has served with. The memories and experiences on his mission are priceless. In his words, Any of the hard is far outweighed by the good!!! We cannot wait for the long awaited HUG!!

Elder Josh Wright is serving in the Billings, Montana English speaking mission. He has been serving just over a year. He survived the bitter Wyoming winter last year. He does a lot of service work and loves getting to know the families he serves. He loves studying the Book of Mormon and discovering the lessons you can learn from it.

Elder Austin Wright is serving in the Morristown, New Jersey Spanish speaking mission. He will finish his mission on Dec 8, 2023. He has really loved his time serving. He has met and taught many different people whom he has come to dearly love. His favorite part of the work is contacting people on the street. He has grown so much spiritually and loves the gospel of Jesus Christ.
