Zion Lutheran Church-LCMS, Hurley SD

Zion Lutheran Church-LCMS, Hurley SD Religious group, member of Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, in dual parish with FELC of Centerville. N. Bohsen on June 28. 1898.

The ground work which formed the present congregation was laid under the guidance of Rev. The church was located five miles west of Hurley in their first building built in 1900. From June of 1910 the congregation was is a joint parish with the church in Centerville. Zion's first Sunday School began in 1937, services in English began in 1941. In 1942 Zion entered into a joint parish agreement with

Bethesda of Marion, this remained in effect until July of 1976 when, once again, a joint parish with First English Lutheran Church of Centerville was formed and has remained to this day. Under the joint parish agreements our pastors have resided in the parsonages in Centerville or Marion. The present church building was purchased from out by Freeman and moved into the present location in Hurley in 1962. Zion maintains it's own private cemetery west of town at the junction of 450th Ave and 282nd St.

2nd Schedule Change

On September 6th at 10:00 a.m. another joint service will be held at Zion in Hurley. District President Rev. Randy Sturzenbecher will lead our service and once again we will follow with a potluck and a Pre-call meeting of all voting members of the parish, at this meeting we will decide to "call from the field" or call from seminary. Please plan to attend and help with this decision, we realize it is a holiday weekend but it is the only Sunday in September that Pastor Randy was available, and there is a deadline to submit seminary calls if that is the direction the members choose. Schedule Alert

Aug 30th service is a joint service with FELC at Centerville at 10:00 a.m., potluck to follow as we send off Pastor Kurt to Northern Minnesota, we wish him well and thank him for his service to our parish.

Next Sunday July 26, 2026 Zion will not hold Church service so that members can attend the community service held in conjunction with HOT Hurley Nights.
