Matthew 11: 7-11 (KJV)
7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

God said he would send his messenger to prepare the way of the coming of Lord who would bring the message of his covenant.

The promises of God are his declarations of the things that he will do.

John the Baptist was the messenger of God, who prepared way for the coming of Jesus Christ, who is the Lord that brought the message of the new covenant of God.

Some of the promises of God are fulfilled in this life through Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 33: 14-16 (KJV)
14 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. 15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. 16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.

God said he would cause the branch of righteousness to grow up unto David that would execute judgment and righteousness in the land, save Judah, and cause Jerusalem to live in safety.

The promises of God are his declarations of the things that he will do.

The branch of righteousness of David refers to Jesus Christ.

When Christ returns, he will save the Jewish people (Romans 11:26-27, KJV) left alive on the earth (Zechariah 12:10-14, KJV), cause them to live in safety (Jeremiah 23:5-6, KJV), and execute judgement and righteous in the earth (Isaiah 11:1-5, KJV).

God said he would send his servant to establish his new covenant in the earth, and write it in the hearts of his people.

The promises of God are his declarations of the things that he will do.

Jesus Christ is the servant of God who established his new covenant in the earth (Matthew 12:14-21; 26:26-28, KJV).

God writes his laws in the hearts and minds of his people, teaches us, forgives our sins, and does not remember them anymore (Hebrews 8:7-13; 10:15-17, KJV).

8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. 10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: 11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

We are people of God, if we don’t become like the Israelites who did not enter the land of Canaan because of sin and unbelief (1 Corinthians 10:1-11; Jude 1:5, KJV).

In scripture, the land of Canaan is referred to as the resting place where God would give the children of Israel rest from all their enemies (Exodus 33:1-3, 13-14; Deuteronomy 12:10; Joshua 21:44, KJV).

It is referred to as the rest of God for his people (Psalm 95:11; Hebrews 3:7-19; 4:1-11 KJV).

And it is referred to as a heavenly country for the people of God, which represents the city God where there will be no death, sorrow, crying, and pain (Hebrews 11:8-16; Revelation 21:2-4, KJV).

We must believe and obey God and Jesus Christ to enter the city of God.

Psalm 89: 19-21 (KJV)
19 Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. 20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: 21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.

22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 23 And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. 24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

In the vision of God to prophet Nathan (2 Samuel 7:16-17, KJV), God made a covenant and promised that the seed, kingdom, and throne of the holy and chosen one would endure forever.

The holy and chosen one represents Jesus Christ whose throne and kingdom are forever (Psalm 45:6-7; Isaiah 9:6-7; Luke 1:31-33; Ephesians 5:5; Hebrews 1:1-9, KJV).

And the seed of Christ (Isaiah 53:10-11, KJV) represents the people of God who will live and abide forever in the holy city of God the new and heavenly Jerusalem. Where there will be no more death, sorrow, crying and pain. And where they will inherit all things and be the sons of God (Revelation 21:2-7, KJV).

Some of the promises of God are unconditional, fulfilled in this life, and in the life that is to come through Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:18-20, KJV).

God said if the kings and people of Israel would live according to his commandments, the kings would reign over Israel, and the people would abide in the land.

But if they followed other gods, they would be cast out of the land, and their temple would be destroyed.

Many kings and people of Israel served other gods, were cast out of their land, and their temple was destroyed.

Some of the promises of God are conditional.

We must believe and obey him.

And some of them are fulfilled in this life.

God said he would establish the throne and kingdom of the seed of David forever.

Jesus Christ is described as the offspring or the seed of David (Revelation 22:16, KJV).

The throne and kingdom of Jesus Christ are forever (Psalm 45:6-7; Isaiah 9:6-7; Luke 1:31-33; Hebrews 1:8-9, KJV).

12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord. 13 And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; 14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

1 Samuel 2: 15-17 (KJV)
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw. 16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force. 17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.

1 Samuel 2: 22-25 (KJV)
22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people. 24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord's people to transgress. 25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.

1 Samuel 2: 27-29 (KJV)
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house? 28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel? 29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

1 Samuel 2: 30-34 (KJV)
30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house. 32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever. 33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age. 34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

1 Samuel 4: 10-11 (KJV)
10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. 11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

God gave the land of Canaan to the children of Israel.

He fulfilled his promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Some of his promises are fulfilled in this life.

The land of Canaan was described as the resting place for children of Israel from all their enemies (Deuteronomy 12:9-10, KJV).

Eli and his sons were descendants of Aaron.

God said Aaron and his descendants would be his priests throughout their generations (Exodus 40:12-15, KJV).

God altered his promise because Eli honored his sons more than God and his sons were wicked.

God said Eli’s sons would die in one day, his descendants would die in the flower of their youth, and be removed from the priesthood.

According to scripture Eli’s sons died the same day (1 Samuel 4:16-17, KJV), many of his descendants were killed (1 Samuel 4:18-21; 14:2-3; 22:11-23, KJV), and another was removed from the priesthood (1 Kings 2:27, KJV).

God’s promises can be altered or changed because of sin.

And some of them are fulfilled in this life.
