If you go back and read the construction of the Tabernacle in Exodus, you will read about many different pieces of furniture: An altar, a large basin for washing, curtains, a table, an Ark of the Covenant, and a lamp stand.

But the one thing you will not find are chairs for the priest to sit in. Ever wonder why that is? It is because the priests' work of making sacrifices for their own sins and for the sins of Israel was never complete. They literally did not have time to sit down!

So when we read in Hebrews 1:3 that after Jesus provided the sacrifice and purification for sins, the work was completed, He sat down! His sacrifice upon the cross was once and for all time. There is no more need for any sacrifices to be made on behalf of God's people, those who trust in Jesus Christ.

Jesus is our great High Priest because He perfectly offered up and was the sacrifice for His people. He is also the King of kings and Lord of lords, ruling and reigning, seated at the right hand of the Father.

What an excellent reason to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, for He perfectly saves His people from their sins!

I hope you plan to be among God's people tomorrow morning for corporate worship on the Lord's Day. If you do not have a church home, please join us at Ebenezer tomorrow morning.

What a historical day! While we celebrate the overturn of this wicked ruling, let's continue to pray for the lives of the unborn and their mothers. May the church provide a way of rescue for those who are in great need of help. Every life is precious in the sight of the Lord.

13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16

On this national day of prayer, let us look to the model which Jesus Himself taught us. Each of these steps is vital to the effectiveness of our prayers.

Matthew 27:45-50

[45] Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. [46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” [47] And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” [48] And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. [49] But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” [50] And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
