We were blessed to have our sister and friend Karis Childers lead the pastoral prayer last Sunday. She recited a beautiful original poem about the Fatherhood of God, and of His being our ever-present, eternal home.

This set a profound tone for the rest of our worship, particularly since we later discussed the privilege of praying to and fellowshipping with God as Father.

We're glad to share Karis' poem with you here. The words are as follows:

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among the long drives of fellowship
Blasting our music that makes the car shake
Reflecting on each other in familiar love
Who make the journey better than the destination

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among the great sweeping mountains of the lost
Hiking the trails that make my soul cry out in agonizing praise
Reflecting on the destruction and restoration of my Lord
Who brought together this body and love for people not my own

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among the small moments in the everyday
Reading my Bible near the spotted cow that creates light in dreary darkness
Reflecting on each nugget, wrap and rush of joyful passerby’s
Who make the job every bit as meaningful

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among each meal shared, birthday celebrated, pickleball match won, and scrapbook page designed
Watching movies together that make us bond with nostalgia
Reflecting on all the ways we see Christ in the ordinary and each other
Who makes each camaraderie centered on Him

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among the deafening hellos and hesitant goodbyes
Riding roller coasters, walking the River, and
attending church in Austin
Reflecting on how far He has brought us and how much further we have to go
Who makes saying goodbye not permanent, but in a little while (John 16: 16-20)

Wherever my Father is I am home
Among the darkness in Oklahoma where stifled laughter lives
Staying out late, learning about relationships, and catching up with old friends
Reflecting on how the Lord will move in the year to come
Who sovereignly ordained each and every encounter we are to have

Wherever my Father is I am home
There is no other place I can rest
He is my one and true abode
In Him I am forever blessed

College students, we’re delighted to have you back in town and are excited to worship alongside you again!

Tomorrow, we’ll be singing hymns together like How Deep the Father’s Love for Us and Great is Thy Faithfulness, then we’ll learn about the discipline of prayer, and receive a prayer practice based on the Lord’s Prayer.

Also, this Wednesday we are beginning our fellowship meals and Bible study. The study is of the Gospel of Mark. We would love to have you come, eat (for free!), and share your insights with us!

Last Sunday, we discussed the discipline of Scripture meditation, breaking the practice down into a rhythm of listening, meditating, praying, and obeying.

To engage with God in His word and mature in this discipline, we were given the task of meditatively reading at least three parables of Jesus.

For those of you working through these texts, we want to hear from your experience! Take some time to write in the comments about which parables you've read, how God has addressed you through them, and what fruit has been borne from that interaction.

For those of you who are seeing this exercise for the first time, consider giving it a try either on your own or with a group! God's Word is His living self-revelation, and there is no formation in His image apart from deep, consistent engagement with Scripture.

Be looking forward to our upcoming message, "The Discipline of Prayer," where we will consider Luke's version of the Lord's Prayer, and will be given a prayer practice based on that wonderful prayer Jesus gave us!
