Dawn will be covering our Dharma Talk and Meditation on November 26th.
While we honor and appreciate all veterans who’ve served we’d like to spotlight one of our own for Veteran’s Day.
Meet Dawn Brock. She teaches Restorative Yoga at our Huntington Studio on Wednesdays at 5:30. Restorative Yoga is an excellent way to reduce stress and relax muscles.
Dawn Brock, a Veteran of the United States Air Force, served nine years as a Clinical Psychologist, completing five assignments in Maryland, Georgia, Turkey, Italy and Oklahoma. She separated in May 2016 at the rank of Major and relocated to West Virginia to work in the Trauma Recovery Program at the Huntington VA.
Influenced by her teachers, psychology profession, holistic medicine, and international travels; as well as, personal experiences with physical injury and cancer, she gained a unique skill set to deliver meditation and yoga in a trauma sensitive, empowering, strength and hope building environment.
She began teaching yoga in 2014 at Altus Air Force Base to veterans and spouses. She stated “I teach in a way that builds awareness of senses through enhanced understanding of the body, to balance thoughts and emotions, in order to gain wisdom from this enhanced awareness. My philosophy is that the body harnesses the power to help us face our/life’s challenges, and sometimes we merely need a compassionate guide to be with this moment, so that we can be with the next moment.” She notes that this form of practice is particularly helpful for veterans, as a way to relieve suffering and reclaim life, even if just for a moment.
