Thank-you Minister Watson for tonight’s lesson on the Holy Spirit. Here is a recap - we encourage you all to meditate on this week:
The Purpose of the Holy Spirit:
1. He Is a Comforter
John 14:16-17
The Holy Spirit consoles us when we’re hurting, guides us when we’re lost, and encourages us when we feel weak. He is the One who meets us in our hardest moments and reminds us that we are not alone. When life feels overwhelming, we can lean on Him for peace that doesn’t depend on our circumstances.
2. He Abides with Us
John 14:16-17
The Holy Spirit doesn’t come and go. He stays with us forever and will never leave or forsake us. No matter what we’re walking through—success or failure, joy or grief—His presence is constant. This is the foundation of our security as believers: God is always with us because His Spirit lives in us.
3. He Is the Spirit of Truth
John 15:26-27
The Holy Spirit can never lie. He reveals truth to us through God’s Word and helps us tell the difference between what’s real and what’s deceptive. In a world full of confusing messages, He anchors us in what God has actually said, so we can walk confidently in the truth.
4. He Is a Teacher
John 14:26
The Holy Spirit teaches us all things. He opens our understanding of Scripture, reveals deeper truth, and leads us in the way we should go. We don’t have to figure life out on our own—our Teacher is always available when we ask Him for wisdom and guidance.
5. He Brings Things to Our Remembrance
John 14:26
The Holy Spirit reminds us of what God has said. When we’re facing a decision, a temptation, or a tough conversation, He brings the right Scripture or truth to mind at the right moment. This is one of the many reasons it’s so important to read and meditate on the Word—He uses what we’ve stored up to speak to us later.
6. He Reproves Sin
John 16:7-8
The Holy Spirit exposes and rebukes sin in the world—and in our own hearts. His conviction is not meant to shame us but to turn us back to God. When we feel that gentle (or sometimes strong) nudge that something is wrong, that’s the Spirit lovingly calling us toward repentance and freedom.
7. He Glorifies Christ
John 16:14
The Holy Spirit always draws attention to Jesus. He is a worshiper at heart, and His work in us will always point us back to Christ, not to ourselves or to spiritual experiences. If something truly comes from the Spirit, it will lift up Jesus.
8. He Is Our Advocate
John 14:26
The Holy Spirit is our Mediator—He pleads our case and helps us when we don’t even know how to pray (Romans 8:26). He stands with us and for us, bridging the gap between our weakness and God’s power. We are never without someone speaking on our behalf.
Key Takeaway:
The Holy Spirit is not an optional part of the Christian life - He is the very presence of God living in us. He comforts, abides, teaches, reminds, convicts, reveals truth, glorifies Jesus, and advocates for us. 🙏
