Prayers that your weekend will be as full of ENERGY and JOY as last night was up in Floyd, VA for a celebration of Appalachian and Cajun music at the Floyd Country Store.
If you've never been, you need to take the ride -- there's live music almost every day of the week and the best people watching, reuben sandwiches, fresh bakery goods (get the apple pie ala mode warmed up - scrumptious) and such friendly people. We've been up there about a half a dozen times now and it never disappoints.
(the band playing is from Louisiana; you might not speak french/cajun, but the beat can't be beat!)

C Jennings Snider
The gentleman I met I only knew as Jennings Snider, a/k/a Scott Snider’s dad. I remember the Sunday morning I came out of the sanctuary and saw this suited man greeting folks with a big smile and handshake. When I had seen him during worship, I assumed he was a visitor to our church, but people seemed to know him, and he, them. I introduced myself and he extended his hand to me and said he had “heard about me” and was very happy to make my acquaintance…..and he seemed genuinely happy to meet me! We chit-chatted a bit about his adorable grandsons and the church and then both moved on to speak with others but what an impression he left in that five minutes or so, as well as the future times we would be in each other’s company.
When I think of Jennings, I remember:
-- his million dollar smile that seemed to light up his whole face, as well as the room
-- how dapper he always looked, whether it was in a tailored suit and dress shoes, OR in a turtle neck sweater and sport coat.
-- how his hair always looked just coiffed, like he had just stepped out of the barber’s chair
--how he’d ask how I was doing and how the church was treating me
--his inquiring about how his grandsons were doing in Sunday School and if there was anything our children’s program was in need of . . .
--from time to time, a donation would be made to the children’s ministry by Jennings – totally unexpected and always appreciated
--his generosity to the church as a “friend” when special projects would come up that would require additional financial support
Mostly though, I remember his kindness & friendliness whenever our paths crossed . . . such a beautiful testament to who Jennings Snider was and isn't that how we would all wish to be remembered?!
R.I.P. C Jennings Snider. You will be missed by all who knew you.

Tomorrow, Thursday, we’ll say goodbye to our beautiful sister, Vivian Weatherman as she is laid to rest. (see details below)
--
Vivian was one of the first New Beginnings’ members that I met when I started at the church. She and Tom came to the church to drop something off, and we had a few minutes to talk while Tom “took care of business.” I realized immediately that she was a very special person – soft-spoken, kind, faith-filled, and committed to NB, and the church universal. Over time, i realized that she was a very strong force for a number of reasons, but not the least of which was that she was able to wrangle her husband when she deemed it necessary, and he would defer to her. 
Things I remember about Vivian:
--the twinkle in her eyes – when she found something funny, was enjoying herself, and especially when our Joyful Noise children were performing a musical number or acting out the Nativity story at our annual Children’s Christmas Pageant
--her quiet strength throughout her and Tom’s health concerns; no matter how serious, she always downplayed it and smiled
--her participation in our Women’s events – I still have a mental picture of her and my mother-in-law commiserating as they learned how to create beautiful greeting cards for our veterans – they hit it off immediately and chit-chatted and laughed together like old friends
--her commitment to attending church events and weekly worship – no matter how difficult it was to get to church, they would arrive, dressed in their Sunday best with smiles on their faces
--how much she loved her family - it was her first priority!
--how she (and Tom) would hold court after worship and greet and meet the children in the fellowship hall to ask about how school or sports, or life in general was going.
--her strength when she lost her son, and again when her husband passed
Vivian Weatherman will be sorely missed. She made our church stronger, our church family blessed just by her being in our midst. Personally I was always better for having spent time with her.
R.I.P. Miss Vivian – and please say hello to Tom for us!

A memorial service will be held at New Beginnings Moravian Church this Thursday, June 11th. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, a memorial service at 11:00am, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
