Affectionately known to many as Mother Teresa, St. Teresa of Calcutta has probably been one of our most quoted saints on social media over the years.

Today, on the 10th anniversary of her canonization, we went back through some of our old posts and found plenty of reminders why.

Her words were simple and direct: find God in the quiet, choose joy, love one another, care for the poor and unwanted, love children, and above all, belong to Christ.

Some of these graphics go back quite a few years. We don’t put words on photos nearly as often anymore, but her words haven’t aged a bit.

Today we ask her prayers and remember the call she lived so well: to see Christ in the people God puts in front of us.

O God, who called the Virgin Saint Teresa
to respond to the love of your Son thirsting on the Cross
with outstanding charity to the poorest of the poor,
grant us, we beseech you, by her intercession,
to minister to Christ in our suffering brothers and sisters.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Congratulations to parishioner Dr. Matthew Harrison, who will receive the prestigious Proudly Pro-Life Award at the Proudly Pro-Life Gala on Sept. 17 in Charlotte.

Dr. Harrison is being honored for his pioneering work in Abortion Pill Reversal, which began in 2006 when his treatment helped save the first known baby through the procedure.

The gala, presented by National Right to Life and North Carolina Right to Life, will feature Rachel Campos-Duffy as keynote speaker.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Harrison on this national recognition and his longstanding commitment to the sanctity of human life.

TGIF: Thanking God for the quiet moments around the parish.

A moment on a bench, a prayer in Adoration, or a walk through the grounds can give us a little time with Christ to sort through whatever the world throws at us.

It’s a relatively quiet weekend at the parish. Well, other than the two weddings, baptisms, Hispanic retreat and six Masses… 🙏🏼

As we head into Labor Day weekend, hopefully there’s time for you to rest, enjoy the last weeks of summer, and spend time with family and friends.

Today’s Gospel acclamation gives us a good place to start…

“I am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows me will have the light of life.”

Take some time for prayer this weekend. Enjoy the people God has placed in your life. And thank God for the little things, too.

May the light of Christ be your guide.

There is a lot in the world right now that can leave us worried, unsettled or afraid. And then we hear Jesus say in today’s Gospel:
“Do not be afraid.”

Whatever is weighing on you this morning, place it in His hands. Take a little time to be still.

Say a prayer.

Trust God with what you cannot control.

September is here, even if the temperatures haven’t gotten the message yet. And if you need a quiet place to get away from the noise for a while, the church is open.

And yes, it’s air-conditioned.

A new school year is a pretty good time to start at the beginning!

As part of our Faith Formation kickoff this weekend, our K–5 students went home with a pack of sidewalk chalk and a simple way to take their faith formation home with them: start with Creation.

The “Sidewalk Chalk Talk” walks them through the beginning of Genesis. Draw each symbol in chalk, then read the verse together:

💡Genesis 1:3–4: Light is first, not the sun! Just light on its own!

🌊Genesis 1:6: Space is next, a space for life to exist, the sky and water!

🌱 Genesis 1:9: Land is after, and abundantly blooms with sprouts and plants.

☀️🌙 Genesis 1:16: Day light is separated from night light!

🐟🐦 Genesis 1:21: All the creatures of sea and sky!

👫Genesis 1:27: Animals and humans are created to populate the earth!

💤 Genesis 2:3: On the seventh day, God rests to dwell and love His creation. The seventh day is the Lord’s Day, Sunday! Dwell with God at Mass!

A few of our kids got started on the sidewalks at St. Mark before they even went home.

It’s a fun little example of what we mean when we say Faith Formation doesn’t end in the classroom. What our children learn there can come home with them and become part of everyday family life.

And you don’t need one of our packets to do it. Grab some sidewalk chalk, open Genesis and give it a try at home.

A new school year is a great time to go back to the beginning.

And we’re off! Faith Formation began this weekend at St. Mark with hundreds of children and young people coming through the doors for a new year.

The first day was mostly about finding classrooms, meeting catechists, seeing old friends and getting to know some new ones.

Thank you to all of our parents, catechists and volunteers who make these Sundays possible. It was good to see everyone!

And we’re off! Faith Formation began this week, with hundreds of children and young people back in our classrooms, along with parents, catechists and volunteers.

The first day was mostly about getting settled, meeting catechists, finding old friends and making some new ones.

There will be plenty to learn in the weeks ahead, but forming our children in the faith is bigger than what happens in a classroom.

It begins at home, is rooted in Sunday Mass, and grows as families pray and live the faith together.

Thank you to all of our catechists and volunteers who said yes to sharing the faith, and to our parents for making it a priority.
