The garden is settling into its late summer rhythm, what I like to call "sunflower summer." Indeed, the sunflowers are thriving, along with the peppers. Tomatoes are still hanging in there, but not producing in the extreme heat.

We watered this morning and picked some habaneros and a handful of tomatoes for the Little Free Farmstand. Went to pick some cucumbers, heard something slither through the vines, and decided to table that option for now. I hear copperhead anti-venom is $100,000 a vial.

Another hot one out at the garden. We stayed until around 11:30, but the sun was… shall we say, warm! Primarily watered and did some weeding; nothing too extreme.

Some additional details about the craft sales at our upcoming PumpkinPalooza. 🍁🌻🌻🍁

Artists will have two options. If you wish to set up your own table and tent and collect your own sales, you are free to do so. There is no fee, but if you have a good day, a little something-something in the collection plate on the 4th would be nice.

Alternatively, you can donate your craft items to the church, and we will sell them and collect the sales. You do not need to be present. Fall-themed items are preferred, but we're really interested in seeing what y'all come up with.

We did something similar to this last December at our Christmas Tree event, and the wreaths and ornaments sold well. Having said that, this is a three-hour event, and while we expect decent foot traffic, we probably aren't going to sell 90 knitted pumpkin cozies. Check in with John and let him know what you're planning, and he can give you some guidance on the numbers.

We were also wondering if anyone would be willing to bake pumpkin pie squares that we can offer with cider. We've done donuts the last few years, but I think actual pumpkin pie would be more fun, especially as this is a lunchtime event.

Thank you to the "anonymous" donor of these Adirondock chairs for our fire pit!

Sunflowers are about 8 feet tall now. We grow these primarily for the aesthetics and the birds and bees.

We will be picking and packing for Hope Corner Food Pantry this Thursday, August 13th, starting around 9 AM. We will have peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and maybe(?) zucchini and beans. It shouldn't take more than an hour.

Another Saturday morning in the garden! Found a few ripe figs, but the majority are still a couple of weeks away. Peppers are going crazy. We've had a few ripe habaneros, but there are hundreds on the bush that will be ripening over the next 2-3 weeks. Anybody have a good salsa recipe?

The garden team was at it again this morning. Seeing some new figs. They're still a month or more away from picking, but they seem to be coming in well. We picked ked a few tomatoes, peppers, and cukes for the Little Free Farmstand.

A quick reminder that we will be working in the garden again this Saturday morning from 9:30 until noon. Tasks this week include weeding, mulching, and harvesting.

A huge thank you to Randy, who came out and mowed this week. Property looks great! I think sometimes we just say “well, he mowed, that’s nice,” but don’t really consider what a monumental task it is to mow 7 or 8 acres. Even with his commercial grade rider, it’s an afternoon’s work. If we had to do it with a standard riding lawnmower, it would probably take the better part of a day, and if we had to pay someone, it would be a couple of hundred dollars.

The garden team is back at it this morning; watering, picking, and weeding. Pastor Bob's sermon yesterday on weeds was very informative. The only thing I'll say is that we don't cast them into the furnace, we put then in the compost bin. But doesn't that create weedy compost? Well, that's a different parable.
