Hunt United Methodist Church Sunday worship services cancelled January 25th, 2026 due to the extreme weather over the weekend. Follow the Kerr County Sheriff's Office to obtain updates. Stay safe and warm!

**WINTER STORM PREPARATIONS UPDATE**

Alright folks, here’s an update on some of our Kerr County and KCSO winter weather preparations. We appreciate the cooperation of the public thus far in getting ready in a rational and orderly way… mostly. (You know who you are.)

Here's what's happening:

All Kerr County Sheriff's Office personnel are now on standby. We've got deputies and support staff from Kerr County ready to roll when things get interesting this weekend. Many in our Office have experience from 2021’s icing event, and while no one wants to be an “ice pro” in Central Texas, our team brings experience. And coffee. Lots more coffee.

TXDOT is out pretreating roadways based on their Tier 1, 2, and 3 priority system. For those wondering what that means, they're treating the most important roads first, then working their way down to the one that gets you that last mile to your hunting lease. They also maintain a great resource at http://drivetexas.org so you can see what may be closed, and why. When they tell you a route is closed – believe them. Please. Pretty please.

Kerr County Road and Bridge will be treating county roadways and overpasses as needed. These skilled public servants know our local roads better than anyone, and they'll be working to keep things as safe as possible when ice starts showing up.

On the state end, we're working with our state agency partners for additional resources. A TIFMAS Strike Team is deployed to Kerr County. In short, we've got extra help coming. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is also fully committed to the statewide response, as this event is covering most Texas counties, including Kerr.

Should I-10 turn into an episode of Ice Road Truckers, we are reviewing plans for two shelters that will be opened on an as-needed basis. As before, experiences from Uri in 2021 are advising our coordinated response. More information will be released later should those shelters become necessary.

We'll be sharing updates as this event unfolds. Once precipitation and sub-freezing temperatures start, we strongly encourage everyone to avoid travel unless it's a genuine life-and-limb emergency. We know everyone has their own priorities (you do you), but getting a haircut, going to your salsa dance class, and shopping for your spring break wardrobe can wait.

If you do have a genuine emergency, your local first responders are trained, prepared, and on alert. Our dispatch number is 830.896.1216 and 911 is available, as always. Please do not call dispatch or emergency numbers to check road conditions – check drivetexas.org.

We're taking this seriously so you can stay safe and warm. Keep checking back with this page for updates. We'll be back with more information later today. 🤠
