Hughes Springs Methodist Church

Hughes Springs Methodist Church We are a just a small town church worshiping a mighty God. Today, the church continues to be a vital part of the community.

We have a lot to offer our community including: Sunday school for all ages, a rejuvenating Sunday worship, weekly Youth ministry, monthly Food Bank & Diaper Bank, and the list goes on and on... The First United Methodist Church of Hughes Springs, Texas was organized in the summer of 1873 and first met in a brush arbor adjacent to natural springs in an area six miles from the nearest town. In 1878

a town plot was laid off and officially named Hughes Springs in honor of the land owners, the Hughes family. One year later, the Hughes family transferred land to the Methodist Trustees on which the First Methodist Church was erected. The First United Methodist Church has been a faithful witness in Hughes Springs and East Texas for nearly 150 years. The church provides regular opportunities for Christian worship, spiritual growth, fellowship, and service. We welcome all people and strive to be, not just a friendly church, but a church where you can make friends and are truly welcomed into the fullness of fellowship as well as participation in the ministries of the church.

Serve with gladness.

There is something special about gathering together in worship. As we come together for Annual Conference this weekend, may every conversation, prayer, and song bring glory to God and encourage one another in faith.

Psalm 100:2 says "Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing."

God’s guidance never runs out.

Isaiah 58:11 "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting." (Acts 2:1-2, NRSV)

Today churches remember and celebrate Pentecost, commemorating the day the promise was fulfilled in sending the Advocate or Helper. It reminds us that, with the Holy Spirit, amazing occurrences take place. Imagine being there, feeling the Spirit, being given the power to speak another language and communicate with others from all over. This showing of God's power is an example of the power that can fill us to do great things in His name.

🙏 Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Fill us so that we may faithfully serve You and boldly share the hope of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Today we pause to remember those who gave their lives in service to others. With gratitude and humility, we honor the men and women whose sacrifice has made it possible for us to live in freedom and peace. May their memory be a reminder of the cost of courage—and may we never take it for granted.
