The Decatur County Museum is so excited to have Colonel Rudolph J. Dichtl in Oberlin on Monday, August 10 to speak about a project he was involved in – the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STRUP).

Col. Dichtl’s presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Gateway (1 Morgan Drive, Oberlin, KS).

The Shroud of Turin has long been a source of fascination. First documented in France in the 14th century, the 14-foot-long linen cloth purportedly wrapped the body of Jesus after he was crucified some 2,000 years ago.

The Shroud of Turin is housed in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, and kept in a climate-controlled, protective conservation case. Because the ancient linen is extremely fragile, it is not on public display.

Of the original 36 members of STRUP, Col. Dichtl is one of the 12 remaining members to have examined the Shroud cloth. His presentation will be approximately 75-90 minutes with slides.

Admission August 10th will be a free-will donation with all proceeds going towards siding for the museum's historic St. Mark’s Church. Come enjoy Col. Dichtl's presentation and help us preserve for future generations the museum's beautiful church.
