Christ the King Lutheran Church

Christ the King Lutheran Church Jesus loves you! In him we have new lives of hope, joy, love, and purpose.

This is the hope that we build upon, and the hope that we strive to share with you and the Howard/Green Bay community! Christ the King is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and enjoys fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). We hold to the Bible as the true word of God and follow only the teachings which God has handed down to us. We know that salvation

comes to us through faith in Christ Jesus alone, and that it is through Christ that we will enjoy eternal life in heaven.

A PRAYER FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Heavenly Father, this weekend our memories go back to those who have died to preserve our nation’s liberties. You raised up brave men and women and gave them the determination to sacrifice everything for us, the citizens of the United States of America. Comfort those who grieve their deaths with your promise that those who die in the Lord will rise again. Move us, the living, to be diligent in our prayers for our nation and her leaders. Help us to be the light that reflects Christ in the way we interact with our fellow citizens, so that many more may know and believe that your sacrifice brings true freedom and everlasting life. In your Son’s name we pray. Amen.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who showed the greatest love by laying down their lives for others (John 15:13). We honor all who died while serving in our Nation’s military, both in times of war and peace. Their lives were precious gifts from God, and their service made a meaningful difference in the lives of those they loved and those who followed in their footsteps.

We also remember the families who live each day with an empty place at their dinner table; their hearts filled with memories of their beloved Warrior. The cost of freedom is something you understand in a way others cannot. You remain in our prayers, that our loving God would grant you the peace and understanding that comes only from him.

The Spirit Gives Gifts for the Common Good!

05/24/2026

Good morning and welcome to Christ the King Lutheran!

Fifty days after the Passover, God’s Old Testament people celebrated Pentecost. Pentecost commemorated the gathering of the harvest and was also used to remember the giving of the Law on Mt. Sinai, the start of the Church of Israel. Christ chose Pentecost to be the birthday of his New Testament Church too. Pentecost, the celebration of the special arrival of the Holy Spirit, is the third great festival of the Church, along with the Nativity and the Resurrection. Pentecost closes the fifty-day period after Easter and ends the festival half of the church year. By pouring out his Holy Spirit, Christ empowered the Church to gather in the great harvest of souls won by the Son. The color for the Day of Pentecost is red, representing fire and blood. Red recalls the tongues of fire received on the first Pentecost and the martyrs who shed their blood for the faith. May God bless your worship with us this
morning!

Pastor Peter Heyn's sermon "The Spirit Gives Gifts for the Common Good!" is based on 1 Corinthians 12:3-11.
