Saint Panteleimon Fellowship A Society for the Practice of Eastern Orthodox Christian Healthcare

09/06/2024

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Saba, the North American Antiochian Orthodox Medical Professionals Fellowship will host its second virtual lecture. All medical professionals and medical students are encouraged to register and attend.

Daniel B. Hinshaw, M.D., will speak via Zoom about "Orthodoxy Christianity and Medical Practice: Understanding the Basics, Part Two."

He will continue his discussion of the practice of medicine informed by our Orthodox Christian faith. He will describe how the voluntary kenosis (the humble, self-emptying) of our Lord Jesus Christ's death on the Cross offers fallen humanity a model for how medical professionals may counter the involuntary kenosis they see and experience.

The lecture will explore the critical distinction between cure of disease and healing of persons. It will also examine how to cultivate an Orthodox phronema to guide the care of suffering human beings.

The problem with health care these days and with Health Care Provider burnout has less to do with the work, regulations or whether you are an employed or independent provider. The problem is that God is not put first. I Jesus Christ is our thought with every heartbeat then there will be no burn out. Patient care will be better. All the rules and regulations won't matter so much. In fact if those individuals making the rules and regulations also really put Jesus Christ first then there would be fewer rules and regulations and more compassionate patient care. Being an independent provider does provide peace I that the provider is free to live a Jesus First life style and share that with the patients.
Let us all put Jesus first. If everyone does that then nothing else will matter.
