Milk and Cookies
There's nothing like a good glass of milk and cookies before bedtime. My favorite is Chocolate Chip. Okay unless you count the mint cookies that you get from Girl Scouts - those are the best.....
Have you ever wondered how many gallons of milk the average American drinks in a year? The International Dairy Federation reported that the average American consumed about 22.2 – 25 gallons, of liquid milk. And in the US we consume over 156.7 Million Gal per Year/365 = 429,000 Gallons per day. WOW!!
Young children tend to drink the most milk, the bones grow the fastest between the ages of 9 and 18 and because bone growth is the most rapid during developing years, adolescents and teenagers require the most calcium, (milk) at 1,300 mg per day.
– Okay you're probably thinking; and Why Do We Need This Information!!!!
In my devotional reading I received this word – “I am causing you to have to reach to higher heights and greater depths. Skimming the surface of your spirituality will no longer suffice. It is My desire that you grow in your knowledge and understanding of the Kingdom. Every child of the King has a vital role to play in the overall scheme of things, it is time for you to step up and do your part, says the Lord.”
Ephesians 4:16 “from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” To me this word was powerful and makes me think of the past.
When I was a young Christian no matter where I opened my Bible there was a Scripture reading that spoke to me. It was like the Lord was speaking just to me, it was always what I needed to hear.
I remember something that was said to me - as a new Christian you're just like a baby who needs milk to grow. A baby’s milk is prepared by his parents, he is feed, he receives nourishment and nutrition and he begins to grow. His bones become stronger to the point where he begins to hold his bottle himself; then one day not only can he feed himself he is able to prepare his meal.
Your parents were there for you when you were a young baby and as you begin to age you became more responsible and accountable. You've gone to school, you received knowledge, you learned how to take care yourself, you learned the difference between right and wrong, and you developed relationships with others.
The Lord was with you from the beginning and He is still with you today - He seeks to have that relationship with you – but as you mature in your walk as a believer in Christ He will hold you accountable for your growth of knowledge in Him.
Remember I said Young children tend to drink the most milk, which means older children and adults are not getting nearly enough. In fact, studies show that only one out of every two teenagers drinks any milk at all.
Just like in Ephesians 4:16 His Word causes growth of the body just like milk to a baby. Once a week going to church, is like skimming the surface of your spirituality growth. When you look around and see the condition that the world is in we can no longer survive on one glass of milk and cookies once a week…
It is time to reach to higher heights and greater depths. Seek His Word - Develop and improve your relationship with Christ - “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.” 2 Corinthians 10:3
It is time to move from milk and cookies to meat and potatoes!!!
