Welcome to the 2nd Oldest Catholic Church in Houston

In 1879, the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament founded a school near this site to serve Houston’s Sixth Ward. This Romanesque Revival structure, designed by Patrick S. Rabbit and built in 1901, replaced the earlier sanctuary destroyed in the great hurricane of 1900. Parish Office/ Oficina Parroquial

Feast of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle: he is believed to have been the same as Nathanael, born in Cana of Galilee, and brought by Philip to Christ Jesus at the Jordan. Afterwards the Lord called him to follow him, and included him among the Twelve. After the Ascension of the Lord it is recorded that he preached the Gospel in India, and was there crowned with martyrdom.

In his August 2026 Shepherd’s Message, Archbishop Joe S. Vásquez writes that “Catholic education is essential to the mission of the Catholic Church. Before He ascended to God the Father, Jesus commissioned His disciples to ‘go and make disciples of all nations.’ The Church is called to evangelize, and evangelization is at the heart of Catholic education.”

Today, the Church celebrates the memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who bore the Son of God, the Prince of Peace, whose kingdom will have no end; she is hailed by the Christian people as Queen of Heaven and Mother of Mercy.

What a blessing! Thanks to the generosity of our St. Joseph family, we have now received $2,850,800 in gifts, bringing us closer every week to breaking ground.

Here's the full picture: the total cost of our new parish hall, plaza, and parking lot is $6,077,241. Our campaign goal of $3.2 million is only part of that. Pledges, parish savings, and an archdiocesan loan together make up the full project. The more we raise, the less we borrow, and the more of our resources stay in ministry for years to come.

If you made a pledge and haven't sent this year's payment yet, now is the time. Every gift moves us closer to that goal: https://ppay.co/2Nh_oEWNWl0

Thank you for building with faith, with generosity, and with love for our parish family.
