Welcome to the 2nd Oldest Catholic Church in Houston

In 1879, the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament founded a school near this site to serve Houston’s Sixth Ward. This Romanesque Revival structure, designed by Patrick S. Rabbit and built in 1901, replaced the earlier sanctuary destroyed in the great hurricane of 1900. Parish Office/ Oficina Parroquial

To resuscitate is to restore breath, to revive what is fading, to respond with urgency when life is in danger. Perhaps this is an image the Church needs as we observe Respect Life Month and World Mission Month this October, writes Doris M. Barrow III, director of campus ministry, at the Texas Southern University Catholic Newman Center.

We rejoice in seeing Pope Leo XIV pray the Angelus today, one day after his release from Gemelli Hospital. We continue to pray for the Holy Father’s health and full recovery, and we ask all the faithful to join us in praying for him. (CNS Photo/Lola Gomez)
