Tuesday Tidbits
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29)
This is one of those what I call, “loaded verses.” This verse can cover a multitude of things. Anything that comes out of our mouth that can be spoken badly of, or if GOD looks upon it as unrighteousness or unbecoming to a child of GOD.
Years ago, I knew of this woman in the neighborhood who would tell you everyone’s business. In honesty, I would listen. I did not repeat what I heard, but I listened. (It was wrong for me to do this). We would call this woman a gossiper. I knew all my neighbors' business. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Although I did not repeat what I heard, I would often make comments about it. (It was wrong for me to do this).
Then one day something happened to me – the ugly! And I was having a conversation with another person, and that person said to me, “It is okay, I know what happened to you,” and they began to repeat the ugly. All I could do was stand there and look at them.
I learned a valuable lesson that day. If someone else is talking to you about other people, they are talking to other people about you. This is what they do. This is who they are.
If someone does not have something good to say about someone or to someone, they should not say it, and as children of GOD, we should not engage in it. We have all heard the old saying, “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say nothing at all!”
Let us remember as children of GOD - “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Amen.
